IIRC, this just a generic sailing ship, not meant to represent any specific vessel. That said, any opinions about the kit here? Never have attempted anything pre-WWII before, so I'm in the dark as to what to think or expect. << Lindberg got almost all of their sailing ship models from Pyro/Lifelike. It's almost certain that it's one of their kits, relabeled. My few sources on this kit say it's 1/133 scale. If you get this kit, we'd appreciate a review for Rajen's List. David R. I want to thank all of you who responded to my inquiry regarding Maryland Silver plan sets. I am happy to hear that their offerings are as good as they look. I guess I might as well sign over the next several paychecks and call it even! shirley -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Pieter Cornelissen Subject: Re: hunt for modern upgrade parts >> The question I am asking is: does anyone know if I could find somewhere an upgrade set including Mk 41 VLS and RAM launchers(respectively for US Ticonderoga CG and German Lütjens DDG)? Those guys from Revell do not seem to know what modernization means. << The people form Revell-Germany do know how to make RAM launchers though. There are three of them in their USS Wasp kit. Resin copy these units or use them as a scratchbuilding pattern. Pieter Cornelissen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Art" Subject: Re: Carved ivory models I doubt that the models you describe are World War 2 vintage. I bought a small frigate in the early 60's for 200 pounds sterling at an auction when the Science Museum in Kensington, London, were having a clean out. It measures 14" long and was carved out of bone by a french P.O.W during the Napoleonic War period. Bits have fallen off/broken over time but nothing catastrophic. What in particular has broken? All is not lost and restoration can be achieved relatively easily in the hands of an expert. DO NOT use modern glues! Our Maori bone carvers are quite adept at this sort of thing, depends on whether it was mutton or beef bone. Does the 'ivory' have black flecks? Art -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Michiel Woort" Subject: HMS Hood from Heller I just received the new papers from our Airfix/Heller import 2002 and not only the small Airfix boats will be produced next year in one set, also the QE 2 and the HMS Nelson in 1:600 and at last the 1:400 Heller Hood. Perhaps now WEM or some one else can make a nice PE set for it. Greetings Michiel Woort The Netherlands -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "daczimmerman" Subject: First ship to enter Pearl Harbor after the bombing on December 7th Dear SMML: I was wondering if anyone can answer the following question: What was the first ship to enter Pearl Harbor after the bombing on December 7th? Thanks David -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "Ray Peterson" Subject: HMS Barham I am getting ready to build a model of the HMS Barham as it was during late '41 in the Med. I would like to find out what camoflauge pattern and color it wore at that time. I have looked all over and can't find any info on this particular ship for that time frame. Any help would be appriceated. Thanks Ray -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Derek Wakefield Subject: Revell Boston First off...if you're bidding on this one, my apologies There is a Revell BOSTON up for bid on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1683125639 The auction ends 6 Jan 02 16:55 PST (00:55 Zulu/GMT) Derek Wakefield -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "bobsmail" Subject: finials afterthought Hi guys, A friend who has no connection with our illustrious craft has suggested that I use plastic chess pieces, a razor saw and Testors metalizers as an alternative. Possibilities? I'll be checking it out. See what you think.
