I have had decent service from this company. I know that it is probably a one man show, a man who works elsewhere. He does have neat stuff that other people don't have. I order knowing that it may take a while to get, but knowing that I will get the product. I have been stiffed by other mail order outfits, but not Naval Base. Shaya has made personal contact explaining delays, etc. With this in mind, I do order in confidence. I am sure there others on this who share my sentiments, or is it sediment? Mark Krumrey New Richmond WI -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Bradford Chaucer Subject: Re: casting >> My question to the experts is, what do you do about moisture causing bubbles in the casting? I use the slow setting resin so I don't have to rush the pour and I don't have to worry about heat build up. Here in New Jersey, the humidity is pretty high in the summer time. Even though my shop is air conditioned (lucky me) castings I make in the summer develop bubbles all through them. I don't have the problem at all the rest of the year. Any suggestions? << Gary: I'm far from an expert in casting, but have you considered an environmental chamber like a glove box to mix and pour your resin, with the box fed from a dehumidifier?? The box can be big enough to hold your mold and the raw materials, allowing you to mix and pour inside the box after everything has been subject to the drier air from the dehumidifier. Since you are only looking to limit humidity and gross airflow, a simple home made wood box with plexi front should suffice. I think this battle of wits applies to any of the older "not so great" kits we built as kids. It brings back a lot of good memories, but I've evolved so far beyond build it out the box mind-set it's difficult for me not to want to make it into somethng beyond the basics. So far though, all I've managed to do thus far is bang my head against the wall trying to figure out a strategy for tackling this project. Told a bud tonight "Well, I think I can use everything from the boot to the upper hull." He got a laugh out of it at least. Derek Wakefield -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: SeaPhoto@aol.com Subject: Re: Humidity and Casting Resins Good practice is to not open your material on days that are excessively humid. If you cannot avoid this, try displacing the air in the container with one of the inert gas products - this keeps all manner of things fresher, from wine to paint. I believe Micromark sells one, and I am sure they are available from a wide variety of souces. As most casters have found out at one point or another, moisture is the enemy. Good tip about premixing each individual product. Also, remember that these products have a short shelf life, even more so when opened, so get only what you need within the next few months. WRPRESS - I had thought that Sheffield had the same scheme 507C/B5/B6 from July 43 to Feb 44 - a variation on the '42 scheme. Your question suggests you think otherwise? What is the contact info for the Graf Zeppelin folks/interest group? Randy Short -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Jack Beringuier Subject: Graf Zeppelin / Italy Hi, I built several 1/700 waterline models (resin and platic kits). Nowadays I want to build the german CV Graf Zeppelin. HP-MODELS manufacturer offer a 1/700 resin kit. My questions are: - does anyone know if it is a waterline model? - are details fine or crude if anyone has built this model? - is there any photo-etched and a air-group? - does anyone know the HP-Models's website? Any help or answers of details would be appreciated. One suggestion (and I am not a trader): if anyone want to find cheap italians kits (regia marina and delphis for instance) here is the best website: www.italiankits.com Regards, Jack -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: rms Subject: New kits from WSW/B-Resina Please check out our web site for great prices on all WSW and B-Resina 1/700 resin ship kits and accessories: www.wic.net/~rms/ In addition to the kits listed, the following new kits are also now available: WSW 700-19; Potemkin, Russian battleship, 1905, $49.00 BR 712; HMS Glowworm, G-class destroyer, 1940, $20.00 BR 717; HMS Eskima, Tribal class destroyer, 1942, $20.00 BR 719; HMS Vanguard, battleship, 1946, $65.00 I will fax a purchase order to WSW in Germany on Monday, 28 January.
