On e-Bay, AND I was wondering does any one have any info on this model? What would the value be? Is it a good build etc. As far as I know no one is making a reasonably priced PENNSY. note: I want the ISW 1:350scale, but CANNOT AFFORD IT, I have a family to feed, and my wife would kill me. SOOOOOOOO is this a good buy, or not. I do want to add the Pennsy. to my "Navy" Thanks George -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Eduardo Luis Marcovecchio" Subject: Re: Paypal payment Thanks to everyone that replied to my question regarding Paypal, on list and offlist! Now I know I have options to retrieve my Paypal money, or to buy new things using it. I think we've all felt ignorant and inexperienced at various times as we have progressed as modellers. I'm having one of those times lately, as I improve my ability with resin and brass. I've gotten a lot of help from this group. I wonder, however, if there is a forum or site devoted specifically to the nuts and bolts of modelling techniques- a technical site, rather than one dealing with all aspects of ship modelling. Any recommendations? Ted -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Eduardo Luis Marcovecchio" Subject: Minimite motor Hello friends, This is for the ones that have a Dremel Minimite rotary tool. I was browsing the Jameco website (http://www.jameco.com), looking for some electronic components, when I found a motor that is phisically identical to the one inside my Dremel Minimite tool. Electrical specs seems to be identical too. The motor costs $3.95 at Jameco. Very cheap if you consider it as the heart of the tool, which costs around $20.00. Here goes the URL: https://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=91&prrfnbr= 175488&cgrfnbr=803&ctgys=503;535;803; I think this motor is an excellent replacement part in case your Minimite motor dies. You can easily replace it yourself instead of sending it to a Dremel repair shop, which will be much more expensive. And replacing the motor yourself may be your only choice, depending on where you live (this is my situation, I'm from Brazil, there's no Dremel representative here). I'm buying the motor right now, when it arrives I can tell you all if it's really 100% compatible with the Minimite. Thanks. Graeme Martin -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Raymond Guy" Subject: Revell HMS Ark Royal Fujimi HMS Eagle Hi Fellow Smmlies Can anyone give me some advice on how to accomplish realistic flight deck demarcation divisions on the Ark. I have tried hand painting them which is very difficult with my unsteady hand and lousy eyesight. (I don't know how you chaps model in this 1/700 scale, 1/600 is about my limit) I have also tried using an adjustable draughtsmans pen loaded with white enamel but could not get the consistency of the paint right and ended-up with a series of unsightly blobs. To try and mask-off the sections is going to be a time consuming pain. Any tips would be appreciated Have just recently completed the Fujimi 1/700 HMS Eagle. Found the usual inaccuracies particularly with the positioning of the ships boats. The flight deck was a pig to line-up with the hull and because the armament and what have you is afixed before the flight deck these components were damaged during this process. The flight deck is also in two angled pieces, why I don't know but the result was a lot of fiddling about to align them correctly as they tended to dip inwards along the joint. This kit really needs a PE set. It carries a large white(?) N on its bow and the caption of the photograph is 'An S-boat picks up speed in the Atlantic on 26 May 1942. S-boat crews had to be ever at the ready to make a quick pursuit of enemy craft.' Can anyone provide more details of this particular boat? Regards Les Brown Hi, The photo is on the SMML site under Misc Reference. Shane -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Derek Wakefield Subject: Stromberg Kits Okay, I'm curious. I found a wooden California model/toy on ebay last year sometime. Didn't bid on it because it was so crude, but I kept the pic because it struck me as being a novelty. I believe the description said it was of WWII vintage. Given the restrictions on use of strategic materials during the war, a wooden model made sense. Later, I saw a Stromberg California kit on ebay. Yet again, I didn't put a bid on it because there were already several people bidding on it, and I wanted to avoid getting into a biding war. Guessed it had to be a collectable. I may be a Californiaholic, but I don't go for everything I see. I'm going to attach the pic of the toy/model I first saw in hopes Shane can put it up on the website long enough for me to get an answer to the obvious question. Is this the Stromberg kit, another brand of wooden kit, or perhaps someone bashed out themselves in their garage. Derek Wakefield Hi, The photo is on the SMML site under Misc Reference. Baca" Subject: Model Ship Journal For Winter 2001-2002 The Winter 2001-2002 issue of Model Ship Journal is enroute to your mailboxes. We focused on rescue vessels of all types and sizes in this special issue, dedicated to those who serve, "that others may live." We strive for a balance of quality material with a scratchbuilt USCG Dallas (WHEC-716) by Keith Bender, the Great Lakes tug Edna G. by Al Blevins, in-depth model kit reviews and new products. There's a full pictorial on the U.S. Navy's hospital ships in WWII using excellent vintage photography kindly contributed by A.D. Baker III. In our prototype photo feature, we show ships that would make interesting styrene or resin model kits and they run the gamut from submarine rescue ships and ATR tugs to fireboats and aircraft crash boats. The majority are never before published photos from Photomarine Archives and Kurt Greiner's SeaPhoto files (Spectacular color shots on the back cover). Scratchbuilders can try their hand at the USCGC Chinook (WYTM-96), an icebreaking 110' tug built in WWII. Included are official plans and photos showing all aspects of the Chinook underway. We also looked at Hasegawa's vintage (and still available) Japanese hospital ship kit, the Hikawa Maru, a piece on Tamiya's Russian sub Kursk in 1/700, The Hi-Mold IJN Kaga in 1/700 resin, the French rescue lifeboat Pierre Loti in 1/50 scale and an interesting piece by Steve Wiper on the accurately and surprisingly detailed paper models of Scheuer And Struver. Whether it's vintage kits, scratchbuilt replicas, paper models or official plan sets drawn by professional naval architects, you'll find it in Model Ship Journal. You can get subscription information on our website at www.modelshipjournal.com or by calling, toll-free, 877-371-0290. We can barely print enough copies to meed demand lately and just about all of our back issues have sold out, so if you're interested in subscribing, definitely contact us so we can reserve your subscription for the Spring 2002 printing which goes to press on February 28th.
