Usually the ships have a hard time keeping station on the side of the ship it is receiving fuel from. In the case of the Hawk (CV-63) we would refuel from AO's and then give out to our escorts. The Larger ship keeps station and the other come up on the side from behind. In all cases they wave action from our bow cause them all kinds of trouble and in most cases they tended to move in a little closer to us than normal in order that we did not put a strain on on guidelines or the hoses themselves as the wave action was pushing them away. On our ships the winches kept up the slack or let out slack as the ships moved closer or farther away. I remember several times when the Captain would come over the bull horn so that all on the other ship could here to "back off you are too close and we have plenty of hose". We actually cleared the refueling sponson once as we watch a destroyer get with in about 15 to 20 feet of us. The year before I came aboard an oiler did not heed that alarm and the after deck house went under and then came up and met the overhang of our flight deck with considerable damage to both. I am very happy, very pleased with the kit. It does not come with photoetch like the SOVERMMNEY kit. Its not mentioned anywhere in the instructions in Chinese or English. I would imagine WEM's new etch will work. << As far as I know, SHENZHEN is of completely different class and has nothing common with Sovremenny (prj. 956), so it is impossible to use WEM's Sovremenny brass set with SHENZHEN (unless WEM will produce a new etch for LUHAI class). >> ...I did reorder the Chinese SOVERMMNEY kit. I will get it one day. << Yeah, this is really great kit, even it requires a lot of scribing and sanding. I am working on it right now and I am very sutisfied with its quality. Also, WEM's brass is a must for this kit - it makes model so real, especially the foremast radar set. Have checked out some ship sites but information is a little sketchy,as this ship was a disguised raider I know her colour scheme would be constantly changing but there would have been a base scheme. Thanks Brett M Oz -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Derek Wakefield Subject: CW 1:700 Tennessee (BB-43) If anyone knows where I might find one of these kits, please contact me offlist?
