(No, I don't read Italian, but the meaning seems clear) << I believe the tragedy from the Italian viewpoint was a Mas boat attack on Malta. I believe they were overwhelmed. My father who was in Malta at the time with an army bofors gun crew told me they dropped the guns and used them as anti ship weapons which laid down a devastating fire especially against light craft. John -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "John Rule" Subject: Books can be deceiving >> The suspense is killing me!!! Could you please indulge us poor uninformed ones (hint, hint) with the exact content of said book??? Waiting with a drool bucket, << I'm trying to write a review of the book for SMML hopefully this weekend. John -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "John Rule" Subject: Ships Crests >> For RN ships, the best book is 'Admiralty Ships Badges - Original Patterns 1919-1994' (2 volumes) by T P Stopford, published by Stone Frigate, Rochester, Kent. << These books which were originally 16 pounds are reduced to 5 pounds at Maritime Books. www.navybooks.com This is a really good price!!!! John Rule -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Michael London" Subject: Re: German Destroyers The last German destroyer to be named was Z 22 ANTON SCHMITT (note not Z 36). WOLFGANG ZENKER likewise was Z 9 and not Z 30. Destroyers completed after Z 22 were not given names. Z 9 was part of the 1934A program and Z 22 the 1936. Michael London -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: John Snyder Subject: Re: USS OREGON >> I have a few problems with the color schemes shown << Hi Bob, Share your observations on color, would you? Some of us are liable to get asked about it in the future. And who knows--it might make for some future Snyder & Short paint chips.... Best, John Snyder White Ensign Models http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/white.ensign.models -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: BSteinIPMS@aol.com Subject: Nautical Research Guild I chuckled when I read Kurt Greiner's post regarding Editor Dave Blanchard's request for "free" articles for the Nautical Research Journal. I've dealt with Kurt on several projects and feel he's a straight shooter. He's telling it the way he sees it, based on his experience with "Scale Ship Modeler", but from a vantage point outside membership in the Nautical Research Guild. I've also dealt with Dave Blanchard on several projects and can tell you that there isn't another publication which I respect quite so much as the Nautical Research Journal. To be published there is, well, it's the equivalent of being published in the Journal of American Medicine. If you're a physician, this is the pinnacle. It's really quite an organization (*and* journal). Just an opinion, mind.
