On the site they say that it's over 40 inches long and 28 inches high but working from the stats of the actual ship this seems a bit big for the scale. Also, has anyone made or is making this kit as I'd like to know if there are any problems with it? Colm O'Leary -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: LYRAD801@cs.com Subject: James Cameron's Midway (From the Rockall Times) James Cameron's Midway set for Oscar glory Forbidden lust amid the blazing wreckage of imperial folly by Lester Haines Titanic director James Cameron has announced that his next project will be a radical reinterpretation of the Battle of Midway. The $274 million project focuses on the story of the ill-fated aircraft carrier Akagi, one of four similar Japanese vessels sunk during the naval encounter on 4 June 1942. Cameron (known as "Jim" to his friends) is said to have become obsessed with the idea of telling the Akagi story after learning the ship took an impressive 11 hours to sink after being struck by bombs from US aircraft. "The Titanic took a mere four hours to sink," confirmed an insider. "Jim realised that the Akagi's agony was the ideal opportunity to develop his favourite theme of ill-fated below-decks forbidden romance set against a backdrop of human folly and suffering." Indeed, the blockbuster will centre on the relationship between humble Taiwanese weapons loader Mai Lai (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) and socially-advantaged fighter pilot Blimi Fujistu-Siemens (an impressive debut by Pop Idol winner Will Young). Although exact details of the plot are a jealously-guarded secret, sources close to "J" (as Cameron is known to his closest investors) have confirmed that there will be much suggestive polishing of torpedoes in the hours leading up to the disaster. What producers can confirm, however, is that Cameron will apply the same attention to historical detail to Miday as he did to Titanic. "Historians will be amazed," enthused one Hollywood producer. "The scene where al-Qaeda kamikaze pilots crash an airliner on to the deck of the USS Yorktown is exactly as it happened — right down to Bruce Willis' vest-clad attempt to wrest the controls from Osama bin Laden." And while Paltrow and Young are consummating their forbidden lust among the blazing wreckage on Akagi's flight deck, US special forces fight their way to the heart of the stricken ship in a desperate attempt to secure the vessel's Enigma code machine which will enable them to crack the Soviet Union's secret cipher and win the war in two weeks. "Those British Redcoats put up one hell of a fight," quipped Whoopi Goldberg, who plays CIA operative "Black Panther". Goldberg's contribution to the film is considered a major turning-point for African-American actors. Goldberg, who is alternatively described in Britain as "black", told The Rockall Times: "This is a great moment for my race. Only now has our contribution to the defeat of British imperialism in the Pacific Seas around Ireland been fully recognised. "Shooting on Midway will wrap in May when the final scenes of combined US-Japanese forces flushing the last Vietcong from the caves of Iwo Jima have been completed. So, what of Paltrow and Young? "Oh, they're both eaten by sharks after the ship sinks," said Cameron. Midway is released on September Eleventh. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "S B" Subject: PGM Colors Thanks for the info guys, It seems it raises more questions than it answers. I'll have to dig around to see if I can find a service record on the ship maybe that will get me closer to a final color. I originally picked the ship because it was an obscure subject. I didn't realize it was going to be like wrestling with a bear to find info on it. I knew I was in for a rough time when my questions to the Patrol Craft Sailors Association went unanswered. So I know what the final conclusion will be. I'll make a decision and paint her up and take her somewhere and someone will scream gotcha, what were you thinking when you painted that in those colors :) Thanks again, Steve -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "william k code" Subject: Re: Movie wish Id opt for a remake of Sink the Bismarck .. I hope Shane (who is a very good list monitor) and others (who probably resent this wandering) don't mind if I chime in here. For those who don't care I'll put a line of capital x's at the bottom, you can scroll down to there and ignore what I have to say about this movie. First, I did not like it. I have not read the book in decades, so I cannot tell you how faithful the movie is to the book. But the movie was not about Guadalcanal--didn't even come close. It did come close to being your average Hollywood Vietnam movie. The director, Terrence Mallick, coming in way late to the genre. What irked me was that I don't think your average World War II grunt was anything like the angst-ridden, navel-gazing soldiers portrayed in the movie. I don't think there was any doubt in their minds about what they were doing or what we, the United States was doing, in the war. Anyone who has recently read the book is welcome to tell us differently. The ONLY thing I liked about the movie was the subplot between Nolte and the company commander. It was a very good illustration of the qualities needed in a commander. I can't remember the exact line, but Nolte's question about how many casualties are too many was very telling. Too many commanders don't have the stomach for command and ironically end up costing more lives than they think they are saving by not being aggressive. In another war, McClelland, Hooker and Meade probably extended the war and cost more lives because they lost their nerve at a pivotal moment, while Grant is regarded as a butcher for keeping his and ending the war. A flawed movie, but the Nolte character is worth watching if you aren't paying for it.
