By that I mean you can hide virtually any problem or quality depending on the angle and lighting of the photo. This isn't a condemnation or praise of reviewing kits in that fashion. Just a fact. << No doubt photos can cover up faults. Nevertheless, I think that photos of models sometimes don't do them justice. Many of us have a lot to learn in order to take good photos. For examples of excellent photos of models, have a look at http://www.fineartmodels.com/bismarck.htm. Norm Samish -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Subject: DDG Decals Thanks to all who offered to send the decals for USS Barney from the Dragon kit. I was able to get a set. It helped. That what I like about this list. But then again, you weren't at sea very long, were you? Maybe they should have an exam before handing out stripes. ; ) << That trivial stuff is what the hired help is for. I'm saving my grand strategic vision for picking the exact moment to cross the enemy's T. I'll have you flogged through the (mothball) fleet, sir! BOTH MASTS HAVE A CLOCK-LIKE FIXTURE ON THEM. WHAT ARE THEY? DAVID -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: HGYL@aol.com Subject: VACUUM FORMING I have recently acquired a Mattell Vac-U-Form machine. Are there any other list members who have one and if so, do they have the instruction booklet? If there is anyone so situated, would they be prepared to copy the instructions and mail same to me (all at my expense, of course)? While operation of the machine seems straightforward, I would like to read the official instructions. Harold Lincoln -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: PT191@aol.com Subject: USCG's CAPE Class 95 foot Cutters Hello All, I am in need of assistance. I need photos of the USCG's CAPE Class 95 foot Cutters. I am specifically looking for photos of an unit of what's referred to as the "B" series. The "B" series boats were armed with a 40mm Bofors, two single .50 caliber machine guns and the Hedgehog anti-submarine rockets and Type "D" depth charges in roll-off racks. I'd also like the photos of one from the 1950s, before the Coast Guard put that darned orange stripe on their vessels. You can contact me at TimConnelly@Budweiser.com or Timothy.G.Connelly@Travelers.com. Thank you. T. Garth Connelly -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Simon Wolff" Subject: Help - 'Dark Aggressor' Hi y'all!! Is anyone able to assist about where there is available information on the series of Royal Navy vessels, one of which was named 'Dark Aggressor'. A fellow modeller has a colleague who is (this is the short version of the story) looking to build a model of this class. Apparently they were produced post WWII for the RN and possibly served other nationalities. He is looking for any publication or photos of this class of ship. So can anyone recommend any publications or sources that may help?????? Thank you. regards Simon Wolff -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Mike Leonard" Subject: Harold E. Holt Mike D wrote - >> I had the good fortune to be commissioned to do the Sponsor's gift for the USS HAROLD E. HOLT, which was a painting of the ship upon her commissioning. << According to "In a Sunburned Country", some Australian city named a municipal swimming pool after the unfortunate Prime Minister, who was last seen alive making an impromptu visit to the beach! MWL -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: WRPRESSINC@aol.com Subject: Re: Reviews We need more chit chat about the details of these kits, re their accuracy. I have one question ---- Is the kit ACCURATE? I still don't know! And does anybody know what references the company that makes the kit, used? I remember that Norman Ough used to mention to me that there was always a problem as to exactly when the nets were removed from R/N ships in World War One. Does anybody know? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: paulship37@aol.com Subject: Interesting item on eBay Cableships 1800's Fwd ~ Grt . Ilus.
