I have Heller's Le Suroit and was wondering if anyone can suggest any good references for it, either on line or in print form? I also have Revell's Tugboat, and was wondering if anyone can give me an idea on when this type was used, where etc? Thanks, Chris -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Matthew Prager" Subject: Re: USN Catapults A number of years ago FINESCALE MODELER ran an article on scratchbuilding the USN Mk4 Catapult, complete with plans. I can't tell you the exact date as I don't have access to my collection right now, however if you go to their website you should be able to find out and arrange for a copy. Matt Prager -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Andrew Jones" Subject: Canadian navy to get Phalanx mk 1B For those large scale ship modellers looking to upgrade their Phalanx weapon systems on US navy warships, well now the Canadians have ordered the upgraded version There is a picture of one version for those wishing to upgrade..cant make out the full difference, looks like something around under the gun, but also 2 "scopes" type sensors mounted to the left of the dome http://defence-data.com/current/page14379.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: AAA Hobby Subject: Re: USN Catapults As for the availability of a commercial 1/48 catapult, wait a while. A friend of mine is building a prototype for a large resin company and if the project can be done economically, it should be out by years end. The big question they have is how expensive and how easy to produce will it be. He is working on the later Type P, specifically the ones formerly on the USS Alabama which he photographed extensively for an earlier project. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: CA139JOHNF@aol.com Subject: Dreadnaught Models I lost my contact info for these guys. Could someone forward me the URL for them, to me? TIA, John Frohock USNSM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: airartcsb@juno.com Subject: Re: Barnes and Nobles book I've got three aircraft profiles in that book! A Kate, Avenger, and a Val. I wish they could have made it twice as big as it is. It truly is a great book. They also have Ace's and Bomber mission. I am hoping that they will produce one on Battleships in art. C. S. Bailey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Frank Allen Subject: The Heller Hood is Here Just wanted to let everyone know that Heller just sent the Hood Association some complimentary 1/400 scale Hood kits. This is most definitely appreciated. They should hit the store shelves soon (prepare to do a lot of modifying though!). Frank http://hmshood.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Kelvin Mok Subject: Brass Name Plates >> I have a very nice brass plate which cost me all of about $5.00 - an engraved plate would have cost ten times that and not looked much better. << One more tip for making custom name plates. I believe there is a specially coated sheet of printer paper that you use with a laser printer. The fine traces for PCB fabrication as appears in the schematic is printed on this paper and transferred to the copper clad board by a hot clothes iron set at aroun 400 deg F. This print forms the resist for the etching process. Therefore if you have complex designs for the name plate and fonts not available from the engraver shop making your own is still a way to go. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Backissues, Member's models & reference pictures at: http://smmlonline.com Check out the APMA site for an index of ship articles in the Reference section at: http://apma.org.au/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
