I was watching an episode of Victory at Sea and they were showing the CVEs in the Atlantic war on the U-boats. Now I know that there is a lot of clips in that series that were re-inacted, such as the SBD's painted like Zeros in the Pearl Harbor chapter or filmed after WWII. Anyway I noticed in this series they were showing a CVE being loaded with aircraft and at one point a crane on the dock was hoisting bombs up to the flight deck and then down into the lowered elevator. What caught my eye was that the guns were in mothballs with the silver cocoons, probably 40mms. So I would take it that this was probably Korean War footage. Did some of the ships go to sea as ferries with their guns still covered. Be interested to hear any info on this. I'd like to order his plans for deck gun at the same time. A plan in an old Model Boats says most carried a 12-pounder. However, being a dumb Colonial, I don't know the difference between Mk I, Mk II, Mk III, Mk V and Mk 95***Mod 8 (OK, I made that one up), but you get the drift. Can one of our Brit contributors shed some light on the subject? HR Products has an extensive line of 1:192 metal fittings for USN subjects, but no .50s. http://www.hrprod.com/192.html Edd -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: John Snyder Subject: Re: Name Plates >> All that may be true, but brass looks much better, will probably outlast the model, and can be polished if tarnished. << Just polish up the name plate, then hit it with a clear coat of lacquer, and it will never tarnish unless you manage to scratch through the clear coat. Cheers, John Snyder -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Jansen, Matthijs" Subject: uss enterprise cvn65 I am looking for pictures of the uss enterprise cvn65 before the ship went to the yard in 1990. The pictures I am looking for are pictures of the starboard side of the island. Especially the phalanx system. I saw that the phalanx platform in the Tamiya kit is not accurate. I tried looking in the Kinzey book and on the hazegray web pages but I could not find the right pictures. HELP!!!
