I can resize plans, looking for a late model ship. Thanks, Lou -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Hank Lapa" Subject: Re: Parts of Old Ships I have some of the same, plus USS Constellation (the old one), USS Olympia, USS Maine, WW1 merchant U-boat Deutschesland, Cutty Sark, Mauretania, Titanic, and Queen Mary. All were legit purchases, and not from any wreck desecrators. You should still be able to get coins struck from Olympia's screw metal from the ship; I sent for mine about 4 years ago, I think. I can dig out the source of Queen Mary and Cutty Sark stuff if anyone's interested. QM stuff was made from one of her screws and Cutty stuff from a lower (iron) mast, I think. Hank -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Torgeson Roger A KPWA" Subject: Friedman's Amphibious Book Hugh, I ran into Friedman at work (NUWC Keytport) last week and ask about the book, he said that he had recently submitted additional information to the publisher and expected it to be printed this Summer. Roger Torgeson -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Filipe C. Ramires" Subject: IJN Tamiya Transport set Hi there I am in a japanese amphibious warfare mood in the last weeks. I am converting a Momi class destroyer to a Fast Transport. Also I am starting the Landing Craft of the Tamiya Transport set. However and also with desire to start the submarine/landing-craft mother ship of the same set I miss good references about it. I only have one photo (dated 1944) of this kind of ship and they call it "T" class transports!!! Except that and the japanese text in the box (which I can't translate!) I don't have any data on this ships. Anybody have photos, technical data and history for this type of ships??? Thanks in advance. Regards. Filipe C. Ramires Lisboa, PORTUGAL -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: stillmo@mb.sympatico.ca Subject: Re: Norm Friedman query about book..... Ray here checking in regarding that query. Are you sure it was Norman Friedman, because I was talking to Arthur D. Baker last month and he indicated he was releasing a huge book on Gator Force ships and stuff.....Hey, either one of these esteemed authors producing such a book will be a guaranteed sell for sure....... RD Bean -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: ALROSS2@aol.com Subject: Re: Friedman's book >> Does anyone have any information on Norman Friedman's book that was scheduled to be released early in the year? << Allegedly, July. The QE2 will not be mothballed, the superliner will be based in Southampton & used as a cruise ship for affluent passengers to the Caribean & Australia Also the last surviving ANZAC Alec Campbell 103 y/o past away last night, he is the last Australian soldier that served at Gallipoli & I think they said on the news this morning he is the last soldier from either the Allies or the Turkish side to survive..LEST WE FORGET -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Ken Hoolihan" Subject: Re: New Zealand Jim, When you visit New Zealand next year, if you come to Wellington you are most welcome to give me a call (work 471-6557) and we could meet for lunch. I have no doubt Lester Abbey would also be interested (he is overseas at the moment). BTW, your USS Olympia is a beauty. It was one of the design studies series, on Amphibious Ships. << I called the Naval Institute Press last week regarding this very thing. As a member of the Naval Institute I had received a pre-publication brochure on this book last year which listed a March 2002 publication date. This has slipped on by and I was told publication is now scheduled for September 2002. They tore up the original teak deck, replaced the rotted steel underneath, and then laid a new deck. They sold small pieces of teak in acrylic blocks as paperweights at the Academy gift shop for a while. (I have one somewhere.) In 1981, my ship was at the CG Yard in Baltimore. I got a piece of Eagle teak from a Chief stationed there, a piece about the size of a 14 inch long two-by-four. I've saved it all these years-- I always thought that one day I'll build a model, and saw up the wood into planks for my model's deck....
