I have at home a book on Japanese ships at the end of WW2, im sure everyone else would have that on this list.. there is line drawings of it with just the lengths etc as well..dont think they have deck views..if I remember they also have a version that the IJN planned to ro actually did convert some landing craft into patrol boats, cant remember the plans but if I dig up the book. I'll scan a photo or 2, but someone here might be able to get it faster to you & I have to find the book first..its buried somewhere on my floor or boxed, but will see what I can do Andrew -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: NAVYDAZE@aol.com Subject: Re: Parts of Old Ships OK that does it - next person that gets some planks from a ship has to get enough for all of us! :-) Seriously it is getting harder to get some of this stuff because so many of these scrap companies start up, buy a ship then end up going bankrupt because of money problems or the EPA. Actually that is how the HORNET was saved and all of those DDGs that were to be scrapped or become power barges stayed around for so long. I have a lot of pictures of the DDGs, but have not put them up on my site yet. The only good thing we have going as I believe it is now against the federal law to send a warship overseas to be scrapped. The down side of that is that a lot more of them are being used as targets - which I guess is a good thing to at least be buried at sea instead of being cut up. Used to be you could go down to National Steel at Terminal Island, Long Beach California and get pretty much what ever you wanted - really cheap port holes and stuff like that. Not sure if they are still there - probably. Saw a lot of good ships go thru there like the LOS ANGELES, CANBERRA, CHICAGO (may be wrong on the exact names, could be their sister ships) and many, many auxiliaries I have a line on a scrap company over in Richmond, California. I also know they have been scrapping ships over at the old Mare Island Naval Ship yard. Have to wander over there and see what I can find. Has anyone dealt with them or heard of this kit? Michael Brown -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Franz Aigner GmbH" Subject: 1:700 Hasegawa Zuiho RP director question Having rebuilt the rocket platforms from scratch and Skywave parts, I wonder what the correct pattern for the directors (aiming-devices) would be. What parts off the Skywave sprues are correct to replace the stubby columns on the original Hasegawa items? Richard P.S.: Zuiho came with two identical parts for the fore-flightdeck. Anyone need that? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Robert Lockie" Subject: Schnellboot plans HI Lou There is a deck plan and starboard profile of a late type S-boot on Dave Krakow's site www.prinzeugen.com - they are probably not to 1/144 but you should be able to rescale them in a reasonable graphics package like Corel or Adobe. Alternatively, try Fock's Fast Fighting Boats or Hummelchen's Schnellboot book in the Profile series, which also have hull lines. Given the generally positive feedback on it, you could even get hold of Revell's kit and scale down from that, although I am generally wary of using kits as reference material as they tend to involve compromises which you may not wish to make. The queries and FAQ have been updated too. There is an answer in there somewhere about Volume 3 of Allied Coastal Forces, the latest development! For those interested in Naval weapons, I have drawn in detail, the late wartime power operated, and armour plated Quad 2 Pounder Pom Pom. (Quad 40mm Mark VIII* guns on the Mark VII*P Mounting for the pedantic). Have a 'looksee' on www.john-lambert-plans.com and record your thoughts. (Both good and bad). I'm now back to my office with my first caffeine of the day. Yours "Aye" John -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "David Miller" Subject: Gakken books I have listed on ebay two of the best Gakken "Super-scale" model books. One on the Kongo & Haruna and one on the Shinano & Taiho. These are two of the best reference books I have seen, particularily on the aircraft carriers. Gakken has a huge 25" fold-out of an enhanced photo of the Shinano with what looks like a slight list. The models are terrific. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1732326463&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=1022460749&indexURL=0&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1732387894&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=1022470335&indexURL=0&rd=1 Dave Miller Palm Bay, FL USA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Shane Subject: New Warship Modelling Books Hi all, I've been asked to pass the following message on from Roger Chesneau. >> Beginning this autumn, Chatham Publishing, of Rochester, Kent, England, are publishing a new series of books aimed at the warship modeller. I have been asked to handle the origination and production of the series. These books will be of a very high quality, in colour and black and white, outlining the history and development of each subject but with a greater emphasis on the production of accurate and authentic scale models. An important feature of each book will be a section devoted to the review of kits and modelmaking accessories relevant to each title in the series, and it is in this connection that I am writing to ask if you would be kind enough to help us: I am sure that there are many in your association who have produced outstanding models of the subjects that are of special relevance to the project at this time. The first two books in the series will be dealing with German Pocket-Battleships and the Royal Navy's King George V Class battleships, and I am therefore seeking good-quality, high-resolution photographs of well-produced made-up models, in any scale, featuring: Deutschland/Lutzow Admiral Scheer Admiral Graf Spee King George V Prince of Wales Duke of York Anson Howe With thanks. Yours sincerely Roger Chesneau Editor/designer << Roger also would like to stress that well made OOB builds are required as well. High resolution pictures of at least 300dpi are needed for the best result in print.
