But Seriously I think that old salts would probably buy a block of the Salem's deck, maybe as a paperweight or something. I know I would purchase one. Mike NAVYDAZE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Sab1156@aol.com Subject: 1/700 Kriegsmarine Is there anyone involved in the 1/700 scale, who would be interested in building/casting ships which were never finished or planed from the Kriegsmarine?? I have many rare and interesting drawings and would like to have them build for my collection! May be other collectors would be interested too??? Detlef Hartwig -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Gernot Hassenpflug Subject: Zuiho RP director Richard ("Franz Aigner GmbH" ) wrote in VOL.1708: >> what the correct pattern for the directors (aiming-devices) would be. What parts off the Skywave sprues are correct to replace the stubby columns on the original Hasegawa items? << I can only tell you that the directors for the rocket projectors were of the shielded variety, not the open type found near most of the 25mm AA on carriers. So I recommend you use a shielded 25mm director. I am sorry I do not have a Skywave set nearby to check the part number for you. Regards, Gernot -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: nd.ward@virgin.net Subject: Ship Relics Following on the thread of ship relics, I have two small (50mm x 30mm dia) turned kegs with brass plaques, one saying that it was made with teak from HMS Iron Duke, Jellicoe's Flagship at Jutland, and the other from HMS Queen Elizabeth, Beatty's Flagship. I bought them at a jumble sale about 20 years ago. They could be genuine, but who can tell? Dave Ward -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "ebrown" Subject: Sovremenny - Twin 130-mm DP mounts Peter Hall & WEM have come up with trumps with their replacement turrets for the Trumpeter kit. The kit turrets have a skull cap shape totally at odds with the aggressive forward leaning profile with undercut leading face, illustrated in Combat Fleets of the World. The WEM turret is spot on. The turret is moulded in a single piece, it took me a few minutes to figure out how it was poured, with two separate barrels for each turret. A rail and three hand holds/ladders are delicately moulded on to turret surface and will be perfectly acceptable to those of us who are not .... well you know!!! The bad news is that, even the not totally committed, are not going to be able to live with the Trumpeter rendition. They belong in the bin. My kit is destined to end up as the Bezuprechnyy, a visitor to Portsmouth (UK) a few years ago. Her electronics played havoc with car radios in the area! Full marks for this one WEM. A note of concern, however. WEM have announced Kelly, Jervis & Piorun in 1/350. Perhaps WEM could provide a statement on the future of Lance & Milne. I could see where the surface was smooth from all the previous visitors, so I took my exhibit ticket, stood on tip-toes and reached up as far as I could toward a 'rusty' area, and rubbed my ticket around. I now have rust molecules from the Titanic on my ticket, so I can say that I have part of the Titanic << I did the same thing...I have rust on my program book too!
