If possible please included time the stores are open as I will be there on business. Thanks in advance Rich -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Tim Reynaga" Subject: Re: Zuiho directors >> Having rebuilt the rocket platforms from scratch and Skywave parts, I wonder what the correct pattern for the directors (aiming-devices) would be. What parts off the Skywave sprues are correct to replace the stubby columns on the original Hasegawa items? << Richard, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "directors"; if you mean the separate devices used to aim the entire rocket battery (the type 95 directors which were also used to aim the 25mm triple mounts), the best solution for these is the absolutely stunning photoetch set V-06A "Imperial Japanese Navy G.F.C.S. TYPE 95" by Joe World/Pit Road (a Sktwave/Pit Road affiliate) of Japan. These amazing four-piece assemblies are the best representations of the unshielded type 95s I've ever seen. You can order these from Hobbylinkjapan.com. However, I believe late-war Zuiho had only the larger shielded variety, which are represented on the Hasegawa kit by indistinct, undetailed cylinders near the 25mms. These can be replaced with Skywave "Equipment for Japan Navy Ship-WWII(II) set 47 SW-800" part number 12. If you are referring to the rocket projectors, that is the actual mounts with the rockets in them, I don't know if Skywave has a replacement. There are a couple of other good options here, though. One is a photoetch fold-together set from Fine Molds of Japan "IJN Anti Aircraft Rocket Launcher" (set AM-22). I have this one but haven't assembled it yet; it is very well detailed stainless steel. Another option is to contact Tamiya and order replacement parts from their Shinano kit. Parts sprue "D" has six rocket projectors on it. Their Zuikaku kit also has these projectors, but I don't know which sprue. I've ordered replacement parts from Tamiya before, and though they are a bit expensive with shipping, handling and all, they are very efficient. By the way, check out the "Waterliners" website at http://www1.ocn.ne.jp/~w.liners/kissui1-2.html for an impressive in-progress Zuiho by a Japanese modeler. Pretty cool... This programs covers an expedition to search for and dive on both wrecks and to discover the exact reasons for their sinkings, the Program also covers the events leading upto the sinking of both ships Cheers Geoff Baker -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "John Sutherland" Subject: Re: IJN Tamiya Transport set Hi Filipe, The book that you will find most helpful is Drawings of Imperial Japanese Naval Vessels - Volume 6. The book is readily available from on-line bookstores - thats how I got mine. Page 74 has the "Patrol Vessel" conversion of Momi and Wakatake class in cluding the ones with landing craft. The text is in Japanese but there are limited English titles that help identify and scale 1/700 drawings. The book is on Battleships, Destroyers, Torpedo Boats, Patrol Boats, Minesweepers, Minelayers, and Escorts. Should cover most that you are looking for. The dedicated landing craft - suggest Jentschura's Warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy - essential publication for anyone modelling Japanese warships. The Momi/Wakatake class conversions are straightforward with Skywave accessory kits and a good heavy file and filler to reshape the stern. I have done it and it looks OK to me. Hope this helps. Best Regards John Sutherland Wellington New Zealand -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "John Sutherland" Subject: The British Minelaying Cruisers Hi all, Looking for pointers at references for the Abdiel, Welshman, Manxman, Latona, Araidne and Appollo. In particulat weapon / radar / configuration changes and camofluage. They don't seem to be in cruiser books nor destroyer books and other than one not overly descriptive diagram in one of the Warship camoufluage perspectives of Latona I don't seem to be able to find much info. Must be overlooking something somewhere. All pointers / information gratefully received. Many thanks John Sutherland Wellington New Zealand -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Ken LeClair Subject: Hobby Shops Hello Everyone, I'm just 5 days from going to sea again and would like to get as much info on good hobby shops in the following ports; -Honolulu -Singapore -San Diego Regards, Ken LeClair, MS HMCS Protecteur Victoria,BC,Canada -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "Pietro_Caltabiano" Subject: Re: Pola hull colour About the colour of the hull italian ships I wrote, five or six years ago, to ANB (Associazione Navimodellisti Bolognesi) http://www.anb-online.org/ , they told me that both red or green were used on avaliability of paints, so a ship, during her lifetime and repairs, had probably the hull painted once red and once green, there was no rule. p.s. pay a visit to ANB site, they have a catalogue full of plants and drawings of italian (and not only italian) ships and details like guns, lifeboats, propellers, etc. Pietro Caltabiano mailto:pietro.caltabiano@tiscali.it -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Peter Webster Subject: Re: Ship Relics My father used to do the books for a local nursing home when I was in my teens. On the home's back verandah stood a 850lb 12 Inch APC shell from the battlecruiser HMAS Australia. Many years later I found out the lady who owned the place had died and I approached the new owner who was happy to 'hand' it to me. Years later I came across a 'tween decks light fitting for the same ship. Made of brass with a ceiling hook and a cage type protector for the bulb. On the wood side, I have a wood knot from the deck of the old Elswick 'Rendell' gunboat Gayundah which served in the Queensland colonial naval forces. Peter Sydney -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: DIMHOFF013@cs.com Subject: the obscure... I seem to have the misfortune of always needing something obscure. For example, a 1/87 scale Russian gunboat made by Scenic Effects. Can you recommend a hobby related search engine or other such resource? Many thanks Doug Imhoff -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Lorna Jenkins Subject: New arrivals at SANDLE Hobbies We are pleased to let everyone know that SANDLE Hobbies now carries Flagship Models and WR Press as well as WEM and PSM. Cheers Lorna -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: John Snyder Subject: LANCE and MILNE >> A note of concern, however. WEM have announced Kelly, Jervis & Piorun in 1/350. Perhaps WEM could provide a statement on the future of Lance & Milne. << Hi Ed, First, thanks for the nice words about the SOVREMENNY turrets. We think Peter's done himself proud again with that effort. Regarding LANCE and MILNE, we've just recovered the masters and will be shipping them off to Peter this week with a view to having him make improvements and increase the level of detail up to today's much higher standards. After that, they'll be shipped on to the casters (the same folks who cast the SOVREMENNY turrets, PEGASUS, LEDBURY, and our Narrow Seas range).
