I have a couple of brass 50 cal. and 20 mm shells one with slug still in it, 75 mm brass shell (tank shells I think) and a Navy steel 3" shells and a piece of shrapnel from a Japanese bomb at Pearl Harbor - even has milling marks on it so I suspect it was an ex Navy shell - nasty looking thing, very sharp edges. Funny story about the 75 mm shell - about 4 years ago I found it in a junk store in Oklahoma put it in my suitcase and flew back to California - now can you imagine doing that now days and getting inspected. I am soooooooo jealous! Any way you could post some pics of it? Want to sell it? << Hmmm - sounds like projectile envy Regards, Bradford Chaucer -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Matthew Prager" Subject: Re: Lindberg Tug Detail parts I don't know of any PE parts in this scale, but you will find a large number of fittings to spruce up the kit through the following sources: Model Expo Floating Drydock (H&R fittings) The Dromedary They all have websites and catalogs. Good luck! Matt Prager -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Sanartjam@aol.com Subject: Re: Parts of Old Ships Hi, I know of two retired Royal Navy officers (formerly of HMS Prince of Wales) who have shell fragments from the Prinz Eugen and Bismarck. Imagine that! Art Nicholson -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Sanartjam@aol.com Subject: Re: Marines Editions Books Hi, Thanks very much to everyone who replied to my post about Marines Editions. I finally gave up and called them directly, and had a nice conversation (first in French, then in English when he asked if I wanted to speak English). I will order the books directly from Marines Editions and will send the order in by fax. At one listmember's suggestion, I did check out amazon.fr and Marines Editions books are indeed listed there. Incidentally, I was told that Marines Editions will soon send out a new catalogue. Cheers, Art -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Damian Pliszka Subject: Re: The British Minelaying Cruisers Hi, There are Polish Profile Morskie with HMS Abdiel and HMS Ariadne. The are detailed plans, many photos and camouflage schemes (also for other Manxman Class minelayers). Damian Pliszka Slupsk, Poland -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Richard Sweeney Subject: Re: ship relics Hello all. Sorry to weigh in so late. But my City has a couple of interesting ship relics, which is a little odd since we're 30 miles inland. Both pieces were "Thank you" gifts from the Navy. The first is a piece of the armor from the Ironclad "Monitor" it is a piece of the plate where a Cannon Ball from the "CSS Virginia" impacted. it was engraved to our City from Augustus V. Fox, in Thanks. The City Library has it somewhere, but I didn't see it on display this last weeken when I was there. For the longest time it was on the Floor under the directors Desk, but that was 18 years ago. The second piece is now just outside our Library, it is a Deck gun from the Spanish Crusier "Viscaya". It was removed after her defeat in the Spanish American War. It looks to be about the size of a 3 inch Gun, The Breech block was removed and there is some shell damage to the gun shield. Other wise it looks fairly intact, the barrel is still clear too (never plugged with cement). It spent it's first 100 years in Memorial Hall on the third floor of the Library, but they recently completely referbished the Library over a 3 year period and it was then that the gun was moved outside. Anyway... my two cents worth. Rich Sweeney -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Richard Sweeney Subject: Spanish Crusier Viscaya Hello. I realize it's probably very unlikely, but does anyone know if there is a kit out there of the Viscaya as she was in teh Spanish-American War? Or even if I might be able to find plans?
