Unfortunately the ability to scroll down that message board to cite the responses I got has been deleted. IIRC, the gist of the responses was that the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price was going to be in the $75 USD ballpark. IMO this retail price will be inside the "impulse buy" window and will ensure successful kit sales overall. (Yes, I know that many here will buy two or three of these kits -- I mean the average "Joe Modeler" who walks into the hobby store looking to buy a tube of glue, sees the kit and decides to buy it then and there.) I corresponded with Tom Harrison of Tom's Modelworks around the end of last year - and he told me that he was closely involved with Trumpeter in these projects. The Essex kit is based directly on his resin-kit master. You can imagine that the photoetch sets that he will release for these kits will fit accurately. Tom also wrote that he has a deal with Trumpeter to sell kits bundled with the brass. Tom said that was going to press Trumpeter to package and sell separate aircraft sets for these kits a'la Tamiya. That way you can mix and match the airwing to your heart's content. Take a look at the wreck: the stern is ruptured off at the base of the rudder shaft. And Divers..... well.... the heavy sea and her stern going up and down in the waves would have sucked the poor divers under the stern and a moment later smashed them to pieces.... before they would have even reached the rudder. all those ideas have been thought over in that night.... as to be read in: Jochen Brennecke: >Schlachtschiff Bismarck< Koehlers Verlagsgesellschaft Hamburg 1997 ISBN 3-7822-0368-2 618 Pages cost... about 30 Euro Yours Udo -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: arthur w rohloff Subject: Re: Hasegawa 1/700 kits and other news Just stopped in at my favorite hobby store, Venture Hobbies in Wheeling, IL, and saw 3 kits that I have never seen before. They were Hasegawa 1/700. full-hull, plastic and white metal kits, called "Hi-Grade", and they were of the Akagi, Haruna, and Kongo, retailing for between $62 and $69. One of the gentleman at the shop thought they might be re-issues, but wasn't sure. The kits look very nice (we opened the Akagi). I was wondering if these are "new", "old", or re-issues that have been updated. On another front, I asked about the Trumpeter 1/350 carriers, and although he had no specific information, he expects them in before the end of the year. He was less enthusiastic about the possibilities for the ICM 1/350 Hood, Essex, etc. Happy building! Lots of folks over there with R/C sub experience, and several with experience with the new Dumas Bluefish sub kit. Tom Dougherty -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: SteveWiper@aol.com Subject: Did any of the Zara CA's visit Germany??? This is a question for the group. I thought that the GORIZIA visited Germany in the late thirties, possibly after the Coronation Review at Spithead in England. Can anyone confirm this? Please be as specific as possible, no guessing! Thanks, Steve Wiper -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Dain Webster" Subject: IJN Ship Call Letters I am looking for a resource to locate the 4 letter call signs of IJN ships during WWII. I would like to display them from the yard arm but need to know where to find them in international signal flags. Any assist is appreciated. The old profile says they were 'twin 0.5 inch disc rifle HA guns'. Anyone got any idea what these were? An illustration would be great if anyone has one. << Haven't found any illustrations but did pick up a set of circa 1941 plans from this web site: http://lonestar.texas.net/~glover/george.html George Goff's "Plan Master Warship Plans" in 1/144th scale. Most sell for $15. I'm talking about the kind of resin we make kits from. I'm looking for the out come as will it react badly or cure without any problems.
