They were Hasegawa 1/700. full-hull, plastic and white metal kits, called "Hi-Grade", and they were of the Akagi, Haruna, and Kongo, retailing for between $62 and $69. One of the gentleman at the shop thought they might be re-issues, but wasn't sure. The kits look very nice (we opened the Akagi). I was wondering if these are "new", "old", or re-issues that have been updated. << Most of the IJN 1/700 Waterline series by all of the Japanese producers have been considerably upgraded. There are far more finer parts and the hulls in general are cast better. Some of the kits now come with metal fittings, and some of these kits are limited editions. They look a lot more like the PitRoad kits. If you compare a new kit with an older one for the same ship the difference is striking, with the older kits now lookinng crude. They have not got around upgrading kits other than the IJN line. Promised a friend of mine here in Norway to try and find it. Best regards Arne Rolstad -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: SteveWiper@aol.com Subject: Re: Resin query >> Has anyone ever put polyester fiberglass resin over the top of model resin? I'm talking about the kind of resin we make kits from. I'm looking for the out come as will it react badly or cure without any problems. << Keith, Please try this on the most expensive resin kit you can get your hands on and let the rest of us know, so we dont make the same mistake! Make sure you poor a huge glob right over the top, to preserve all that fine detail you build. Then you will have the world's biggest paper weight! You never know, you might get a really cool chain reaction explosion by mixing the chemicals! Hey, what are friends for? Steve Wiper -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Minadmiral@aol.com Subject: PT 109 Hi; Just a note to tell you that the news tonight had an interesting report. Mr. Ballard thinks that he has found the remains of Kennedy's PT 109. He's not sure yet, still investigating. Monitor Hello list. Thank you to all SMMLlies who answered my question. The were more than enough results. I never thought about so many books of this ship. Best regards. Dirk Emmermacher IG Mikromodell -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Poutre, Joseph A" Subject: Carrier flight deck decals Does anyone out there make USN Korean War era decals in 1/700 in _yellow_? At least a couple carriers had yellow markings and numbers during that conflict. Eventually we'll need them in 1/350, too, for the Trumpeter and (hopefully) ICM Essexes, since I'm certain I'm not the only person who's planning to build a Korean War Essex class.
