What I would appreciate is, if anyone knows of a good page they think should be incorporated, could they please send me the address. << There's a rather sad photo of USS "DD-224" (ex-USS Stewart DD-224/ex-IJN Patrol Boat No. 102)gently beginning her final plunge after service as a USN gunnery target post-WWII at: http://homepage1.nifty.com/HARPOON/UMAX20_2.html The quality of the photo isn't that great, but you don't see a ship in both IJN and USN markings every day! The museum's home page is: http://home.gwi.net/~maritime/ I was very impressed with this museum and recommend it to anyone! I remember ch 9 used to have a defence reporter..i wonder if they would look for one now..... (me me me me me me me me me!!!!!!!!!) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Andrew Jones" Subject: Navy open day hey this is for the Sydney siders HMAS Penguin will be open to the public on Sunday... this will be the only open day this year due to overseas requiremnts by the navy & security reasons. There will be the new RAN ship the Gasgoyne open for the public...i think this is the celebrate 60 years of Penguin The RAN will be having only one major public display day this year (there goes NAVY WEEK!). It's Sunday July 14 @ HMAS Penguin at Middle Head Rd, Balmoral. Andrew -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Stan Katinsky Subject: Re: General Casimir Pulaski >> This may be a bit off-topic, but visiting this year's Kiel Week was, among others, the Polish frigate Gen. K. Pulaski, the former USS Clark. As I was told, she was named after the Polish cavalery general Casimr Pulaski who served under George Washington in the American War of Independence. Can anybody provide more information on his life and career? << Besides the frigate, a Lafayette class sub (SS Casimir Pulaski SSBN-633) and an American fort were named after him in honor of his contributions to the American revolution and his sacrfice in it. He was granted a commission for his service in the battle of Brandywine, and served at Germantown and Valley Forge before being killed leading his Pulaski Legion of cavalry in a charge during the seige of Savannah. (I WONDER IF THEY CALLED HIM CASEY) I DO KNOW HE MUST HAVE BEEN A HEROIC FIGURE. HE HAS A FORT IN SAVANNAH, GA., AND A SOFTBALL FIELD IN ERIE, PA. NAMED AFTER HIM. HOPE THIS HELPS. J. Someone needs to buy this pre-war book and scan the photos to the web site. Book will go cheap, but postage will be high. Sam Pullig -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Dean, Tom" Subject: HALIFAX CLASS DOCUMENTARY Mike: That documentary first appeared here 4 or 5 yrs ago. It was on a series that still runs on our "Discovery Channel" under the title of "Forbidden Places". Although the title was a bit misleading it did take you into places that you would not normally see in daily life, like oil platforms, military installations, hospitals, Fire Halls etc. If I remember it was mostly filmed aboard HMCS TORONTO, FREDERICTON & VILLE DE QUEBEC, as well as lots of construction footage from St John shipyards. Your right, it was excellent, and showed far more than I would have expected the navy to make available. Tom Dean Hamilton, Ontario Canada ps. For all you "Yanks" attending the convention, maybe you will be lucky and Darren and some of the other "Canucks" will bring some real beer south with them to share. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: "David Edgerly" Subject: Model Ship Journal Has the summer issue been published yet? The box has a picture of the real ship and you can see the dimples very clearly. To me, the frames are real close and to do the job right would require more patience than I have. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: "Jeff Herne, NJAHOF" Subject: Tri-State Aviation Expo NYC Area Folks, Just a reminder that the Tri-State Aviation Expo will be held at Teterboro Airport, just outside NYC, on August 16th and 17th (Yes, a Friday evening and Saturday).
