Loren wrote a few wonderful and inspiring stories about his ships back then. I remember another great series about his USS Long Beach, and how it was animated in a gazillion ways. Anyway, if I recall correctly, Loren described how he put 'oil canning' on his USS Vogelsang by adding a couple of drops of a darker paint to the hull paint and very subtly masking the shape of the framing and lightly spraying the oil canning on. To be effective it has to be barely noticeable. But if done right, it looks like there's a slight shadow where the hull plating has bent inwards. I received mine in the mail a few days ago and am very impressed with the magazine. Victor has come a long way in terms of the diversity of content and layout. You won't be disappointed. Anyone know the whole story on this?? Tom K -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Franz Aigner GmbH" Subject: brother, can you spare me a 1/700 Tamiya Hood high angle gun?? Tamiya does provide 8 of these (parts B35 + B37), while only 7 are needed: if I can find two more, my Matchbox Ariadne need not go naked any more. I can offer Skywave parts in return (IJN + USN), mostly WW2, but there are some post WW2 USN sets as well Richard -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Denis J" Subject: Accurate reporting The news these days is more like comic opera than the accurate reporting of events. The reason I guess is that the electronic media, in particular, but not only, see's itself as ENTERTAINMENT and the truth from unbiased factual reporting is less important than RATINGS. Sadly I'm old enough to remember when the TRUTH was important and you could to a large degree trust your news service. Sometimes its a pity change is a constant. rgds denis james -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: O'Connor Subject: Re: real beer >> ps. For all you "Yanks" attending the convention, maybe you will be lucky and Darren and some of the other "Canucks" will bring some real beer south with them to share. << Now that the US borders are as secure as thay will ever be, particularly along that border with those pesky Canucks, the Canadian beer will never make it south of the border-US Customs might think it will explode our brains!
