Has he found anything. After 60 yrs in those supposely warm south pacific waters I would think a plywood hull wouldn't last. Any one heard anything? May you give me addres shop in this part of world. Yours sincerely Kris -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: MIKE.LEONARD@CUSTOMS.TREAS.GOV Subject: Airshow Canceled Air Expo '02, a major two-day airshow featuring the US Air Force Thunderbirds and Canadian Forces Snowbirds, has been canceled because of security concerns on the part of officials at the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland. The show had been scheduled for September 28/29. My guess is the only non pilot/missile flying doohickie that would have roundels would be UAV's not cruise missiles. well that's my guess maybe someone has RN pics to prove otherwise. seems strange unless the RN wanna say that it was not their missile that took a wrong turn & hit something it shouldn't have ..if it aint got roundels it aint one of ours..see the US, lol Andrew Oz PS: was going thru the FAS web site & found a photo of a RN tomahawk.. couldn't see a roundel unless its on the wings http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/docs/sr-tlam2.jpg -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Andrew Jones" Subject: Re: HMS Nottingham See in this mornings paper, an idea running around the Britsh Dept of Defense is to scrap the ship instead of getting it repaired.. wonder if the RAN would take it over under salvage rights, wonder how HMAS Nottingham would look or would we call it HMAS WOLF (and battle honours british whaling ship whatever year (- 100 or 200 years ago?) it was & 2002 HMS Nottingham) poor captain....oh well -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Gernot Hassenpflug Subject: accurate 5"/38 mountings in 1/700 I have bought the new special-edition full-hull Skywave 1/700 Iowa, and see that the turrets are a new design from their previous Weapons Sets. But they still look wrong to me.... dimensions I will take over the weekend. Does anyone know of some really good turrets that are readily available? (Perhaps the Tamiya ones instead, or else resin replacements from somewhere) Cheers, Gernot -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: JRKutina@webtv.net (John Kutina) Subject: Russian Submarine Seattle, WA There is now a second "Foxtrot" class Russian sub moored at pier 48 - next to the Coleman Ferry Dock. I toured the boat this morning. The attached is a URL on the same type sub moored in British Columbia, Canada. I have toured the U-505 German sub in Chicago and the U.S. sub in San Francisco. This one is quite unique and the owners plan to make it a permanent display in Seattle. If you are in Seattle, it is worth your time to take a tour. http://www.river-road.net/temiller/sub/Sub1/ Regards, John - Seattle -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Bruce Burden Subject: Re: RN Missile >> represent a Royal Navy missile. As such, I am looking for decals that say ROYAL NAVY and are approximately 3/4 inch high. I also need the roundel. << The roundel is relatively simple. Many decal sheets have various sized roundels. Probably a 1/48 decal sheet for RN/RAF fighters would be what you need. The decals, in 3/4" high letters may require you going to railroad decals, and finding the correct font/letters in a sheet, and applying the individual letters. You many find someting on a 1/48 or 1/32 aircraft decal sheet. Perhaps some of the 50's fighters would have "ROYAL NAVY" on the underside of the wing? Bruce -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Kurt Van Dahm Subject: Zhong Shan Gunship Does anybody have any information on the Chinese Zhong Shan Gunship that Trumpeter models has come out with? It's a great looking kit in 1:150 scale and the box art shows it shooting down some WWII Zeros, there are some bi-planes in the air as well as a crashing multi engine Japanese bomber so I figure it is of the WWII era. The only other information is what I believe to be the name of the ship itself, YI DAI MING JIAN. Everything else is in Chinese. There is a decent photo of a completed model on the side panel of the box giving a decent idea of the colors but I am looking for a bit of history about the ship or class of ship. Next step will be to take the box with me to dinner and ask our friendly Chinese restaurant owner to translate. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks and take care, Kurt Van Dahm Westmont, IL NRG member -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Preston L Hassler Subject: Re: IPMS/USA Convention SMML ID Hi Guys, I have some yellow "happy faces" (could be construed as SMMLie faces) stickers, about 0.7" in dia. They could be stuck on our badges so we could identify and introduce ourselves if we so desire. I will leave them at the Commander Models table since they have already consented to be a message center for SMMLies, assuming they don't mind.
