I forgot if it was because they didn't trust the Ship's Laundry, they couldn't meet the pickup times for the laundry due to long work hours or if they went thru so many clothes in the heat and humidity of the Main spaces that they couldn't wait for clothes to come back from the laundry. The HTs also had a couple of washer/dryer sets in various machine shops. Stein (FF 1065) also had one... Re: Floating crane in Long Beach - Me too! I also was wondering what happened to "Hermann the German". It was a local wonder. Is it gone? Re: Preble, Smallest cruiser in the Pacific - All I remember is that Preble was the only member of that class in Pacfleet. In 1980, she had an awfully hard time keeping underway. The rumor was that she was lonesome for all the other members of her class and when she moved to Lantfleet, her engineering woes went away and she was great again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: NAVYDAZE@aol.com Subject: Re: Frigate & Corvette Well, since we have not had any corvettes in the U.S. since the sailing ship days, I will stay out of that one. Mike Bartel responded, offered 8 items (instead of the 2 needed), and refused to accept anything in return. Then he spent USS 2.30 on postal fees alone to get the package to Austria within about 3 days: an absolute record for ANY shipment I have had from ANY mail order shop (and they charged stiff fees to supply the paid for goods within up to 8 weeks). Did he put some advertising material for Imperial Hobby Productions into the box? No, although there was plenty of room. EXEMPLARY SERVICE, Mr. Bartel!! I hope to be able to return the favor, Richard ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Mike Bartel Subject: I put some items on eBay Hi all, I have a hull master for the KM Nurnberg (WW2 CL) that I started several years ago and never completed that I just put on eBay. It has some cast resin 5.9" gun turrets and barbettes that come with it (they are cast from my own masters). For you 1:700 modelers, I have a hull master for a RN Zara class cruiser I started and didn't finish the rest of the master. The hull could be the basis for a nice little model, perhaps using some parts from available resin kits. Hopefully someone can use these items, as I am doing some housecleaning and have determined that I will not be using them. More details are on the auction pages. I made these two items myself, so there is no danger of anyone coming after you for copyright infringement. They are just half-finished masters that I do not need.
