I'd really like to have a 1/700 of her, to go with the rest of the ships from the BG. George Cost ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: MrkLeonard@aol.com Subject: Self-serve laundry Hey, at least they HAVE a laundry. When I was aboard Coral Sea in 74-75 (Oh god, here he goes again with the Coral Sea thing), EM below CPO didn't get to use the ship's laundry. You either made sure you had enough clean clothes to last an at-sea period, or you hand-washed them somehow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: David Gregory Subject: Hungarian River Monitors 1939-45 Can anyone point me to books, websites, anything that has information on the boats and monitors used by the Hungarians in WW2 and details their operations? Thanks Dave G ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: MIKE.LEONARD@customs.treas.gov Subject: Re: Mosquito Fleet Book Al Ross asked >> "Building The Mosquito Fleet >> Got an ordering address???? Also, are there any plans? If so, are they any good? Are there photos? Inquiring minds want to know... :-} << The book is published in the US by Arcadia Press, 2A Cumberland Street, Charleston, SC 29401 (price $24.99). The UK publisher is Tempus Publishing Ltd., The Mill, Brimscombe Port, Stroud, Gloustershire GL5 2QG (price £15.99). I believe I got a 20% discount from The Scholar's Bookshelf in New Jersey. There aren't any plans in the book, but quite a few detailed onboard and drydock photographs (mostly from Navy sources) of Winslow, Cushing, Porter, Dupont, etc. which I thought were worth the price. MWL ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: John Snyder Subject: Re: Frigate & Corvette >> Well, since we have not had any corvettes in the U.S. since the sailing ship days, I will stay out of that one. << Oh, I just KNOW I'm not going to be the only one to jump on this statement. Mike, the USN had a number of Flower-class corvettes commissioned as United States Warships during WW2: USS COURAGE, USS FURY, USS IMPULSE, USS READY, USS RESTLESS, USS SAUCY, USS SPRY, USS SURPRISE, USS TEMPTRESS, USS TENACITY, USS ACTION, USS ALACRITY, USS BEACON, USS BRISK, USS CAPRICE, USS CLASH, USS HASTE, USS INTENSITY, USS MIGHT, USS PERT, USS PRUDENT, USS SPENDOR, USS TACT, USS VIM, and USS VITALITY. In reply to your query RN aircraft roundels. You are right in thinking that the red was removed. I suppose to avoid confusion with the Japs. I hope this helps. Phil Collins ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "Doug Marrel" Subject: Mike Bartel ebay How about an auction number?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Phil Collins" Subject: When is a cruiser not a cruiser... If you think it strange that destroyers was reclassified as cruisers, spare a thought for the poor old RN during the seventies! To get the finance for HMS Invincible, and to pretend they were not going to operate fixed wing aircraft, they designated it as a "Through Deck Cruiser"! On another note. The Belfast RN reserve use an old WWI cruiser, the HMS Caroline, as their headquarters.
