She was an extremely old 4 piper with the old raise Foc'sle of the old Sampson Class. I also understand she was the only one of her class left. So the question is why was she still in commission and not scrapped considering she was DD-66 when ships far newer such as the USS HULL DD-330 had already been scrapped Anyone have any info on this unusual destroyer? The Missouri was painted not in modified Measure 22 but what is known as Measure 12 1945 type (revised). This should not be confused with Measure 12 1945 type, and should not be confused with Measure 18. Measure 12 1945 (revised) had the paint line follow the line of the main deck. This variation of the 1945 measure 12 type started to be used about August 1945. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Fkbrown90@aol.com Subject: Re: Sea Cocks To: CYP KLISH You have called attention to something I have noticed too, namely the general lack of through-the-hull fitting locations on ship, models. Quite often they are omitted from the drawings, whether they are kit drawings or not. In an effort to compensate for my lack of skills, I try to include as much detail as I can on my models by researching and including such esoteric items as through-the-hull fittings, Commissioning Pennants, careful selection of rigging sizes, correct display of flags, etc. I have been fortunate in this effort, thanks to SMML people such as Art Herrick, Mike Leonard, Bob Santos, Dan and Ted Treadwell, (all listed alphabetically) etc. Although scale and location may dictate the amount of accuracy, sometimes through-the-hull fittings can be as simple as a small washer glued to the hull to represent the mounting flange. Other fittings are somewhat rectangular in shape, with heavy ribs or grills to prevent ingestion of foreign material, thus requiring carefully made devices. Quantity, type, and location of fittings may require some researching, but there is always someone in SMML who can help, thankfully. Have I (we) opened Pandora's Box (I hope so !!!! )? As the saying goes, "Trivials make perfection, but perfection is not trivial.". It states that during the Normandy landings his submarine the X23 was painted in a camouflage scheme of yellow and brown. while laying on the bottom off Sword beach. Does ANYBODY have any more data on this. Her sister the X20 was also employed for similar duties. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Sanders, Talmadge FC1" Subject: Long Beach Could Mr. William Smallshaw contact me off list at tsanders@princeton.navy.mil for a bit of info for the Long Beach area??
