In Australia many clubs not just models.. horse riding fun parks are starting to close down cuz they have to pay $300,000 or something similar in insurance.. not sure how much APMA pays but I just wonder what the future would be seeing that buildings require insurance before they rent their halls out ..guess the next step would be to save money would be to get everyone to sign a waver that if anything happens to them, they cannot claim any insurance..&& another thing to consider what about parents who are too busy to take their kids on weekends to club meetings & pay for entrance fees & models that their son or daughter wants .. I just wonder what the future will hold.. don't mean to sound pessimistic, just my thoughts Andrew ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Chris Langtree" Subject: Nagato turrets Hi Franz The Skywave parts are overscale. This is quite a problem with a lot of their stuff. If you have the re-tooled Nagato use the kit parts. Chris Langtree ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Steve James" Subject: Re: 1:20!!! GRAFF SPEE G'Day Chuck, Wow! Bob Ballard has raised AND restored the Graf Spee?!? Cheers Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: schiefet@cs.com Subject: Re: 16mm to prints >> ..... And hey I just got to ask Steve in Pelham, which commercials was you mother in - hopefully nothing that really annoyed us? :-) << A Minute Rice commercial back in the early 60's. The family has never seen the commercial and actually never knew she had the film until she sold her house 3 years ago. Steve Pelham, NH ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: David Fisher Subject: hull lines Not only does Art Herrick have a fine collection of plans he is also very generous and most helpful as I found while working on my Hog Islander model. Dave Fisher ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Jeff Herne, NJAHOF" Subject: Hull Lines (Art Herrick) Yes Art, I forgot....email waiting. Jeff ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "Peter Chant" Subject: RN Ship Names All Have a look here: http://www.navynews.co.uk/articles/2002/0207/0002073101.htm for a quick article on how the Ships' Names and Badges Committee considers names for RN ships. Peter Chant ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Kelvin Mok Subject: Future of Ship Modelling >> Another temptation that I've seen is the huge (and incomprehensible) difference in pricing on imports. A distributor in Canada may price a ship at $6.60 while the same ship lists across the border for $12.99. The Internet is helping expose such pricing nonsense which is counter-productive to say the least << Groan Melvin, that hurts because I was just discussing model prices with a model shopowner on why a 1/32 Mig 19 costs CDN $29.95 and then the next Mig 19 kit upgrade suddenly jumps close to $80. His answer was that he had originally ordered them from China (the shop owner is from Hongkong) but now has to order them through the US distributor. The change was only a few months ago. The strong US dollar plus taxes jacks up everything and I imagine the US distributor has rights for North America. At this rate a reputable and reliable mail order house in Hongkong charging China prices will be high on my wish list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Backissues, Member's models & reference pictures at: http://smmlonline.com Check out the APMA site for an index of ship articles in the Reference section at: http://apma.org.au/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
