They let the first salvo go and then nothing happened. It turned out that they missed the entire island! Apparently someone in the fire control station left a switch in the wrong postion, so the wrong range was sent to the fire control computer. It's a funny story, and goes to show that those big guns can miss from time to time. Cheers Mike Connelley ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Burl Burlingame Subject: Re: CV-8 The PE for the Hornet is already available from Tom's Modelworks, as is the PE for the Essexes. I think he's also got Enterprise stuff too. That's not in any documentation I've seen. What is the source of that? << Frank, Please go back and re read my posting. I never said it was fact, but that it was the common practice to use that color in the Atlantic and that it was a presumption on my part. My personal collection of Prinz Eugen photos is about 350 images and unfortunately, not a single one is of the tops of the turrets at that time. There are more images of the Eugen in the US Nat. Archives, but I have yet to find them. I have seen some of them, so I know they are there. All I need is more time there! I am traveling to Germany this November and will give the German Archiv a brief survey for future visits. On a related subject, the friend I will be visiting has found a treasure trove of photos of the Bismarck, over 100 and 20 to 25 of them are from that ships last day in Norway, and they are all in COLOR! I hope that they may answer many of the questions we all have about Bismarck's camo. If the quality is good, I am going to put together an all color photo album of Bismarck by this Christmas. Everyone cross your fingers and hope this is a good as we wish it to be!
