Also I think there was problems at times with the communications device as it was easily jammed or being new it had teething troubles (loss of camera vision or loss of signal), so they did away with it. Sure someone has better info than me Andrew ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: AAA Hobby Subject: Re: Pitroad Wisconsin/Missouri >> I just looked in to my local Joshin department store's model/hobby branch today, and noticed that the Pitroad 1/700 Missouri and Wisconsin are in at last. They depict the subjects as in 1991, are each priced at 3800yen, and probably there will be the full-hull version and brass barrel versions out in the next couple of weeks. Now to wait for the DDs that are overdue too....and the JMSDF general photo-etch fret to go with the Kongo class, Murasame class, Haruna class and Hatsuyuki class frets. << I saw the trees for these, they looked identical to the new Trumpeter kits (which claim to be a joint venture with PR/SW) and they sell for $22 vs. the $45+ price tag for the PR/SW kits. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: AAA Hobby Subject: Re: CV-8 Photoetch from GMM >> However, a major Seattle hobby dealer, having seen a sample Hornet kit at a recent hobby trade convention in the midwest, has just tripled his store's order. His opinion of the new Hornet kit was summed up in one word: beautiful << Loren, I don't know what he saw, but Mike Bass was unable to have any parts to show other than the hull, main deck and flight deck. I am supposed to be able to get a test shot to measure for the island update to make a Yorktown/Enterprise out of the kit - but to no avail! We will proceed with the island parts and issue a second hangar/catwalk/gun set if needed. My impressions of the parts available was good, but nothing to get overly excited about. The hull was nicely detailed upper & lower hulls, the hangar deck is being designed properly with all of the walls being separate pieces to go up to the flight deck. The fantail was plain, as was the focsl. The FD is the weakest part of the model shown, IMO. It is in 3 parts (like BWN deck) with the fwd elevator being a separate piece. The deck scribing is nice, but the tie-down strips looked to be about 1/200 in details and twice as wide as needed. I made these comments to them, no telling if they will be heeded or if it is simply too late. Mike Bishop might be able to sell flight decks for this kit. There were no detail parts at all to see, so I have no idea what was there in the way of guns, planes, bridge, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Arjun Sarup" Subject: French helicopter Hi, The Alouette III hasn't quite disappeared; the French Navy presumably continues to use them, as on their auxiliaries like the Somme. The naval version is used by the Indian Navy, and the Alouette (Chetak) is used quite extensively by the Indian Air Force. They are even used down here in Mauritius. Arjun Sarup http://pages.intnet.mu/warbirds/warships/index2.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: annobon4@aol.com Subject: Revell SSP Program Hi Guys At the 2002 Nats in Virginia Beach I talked to Revell Monogram reps and I learned that next year they're going to resume the SSP program again. So they proabley will continue to make cars and planes but maybe some old classic ships will appear again. Like the Olympia some one asked for. Craig ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: schiefet@cs.com Subject: Re: Inaccuracy of Iowa Class guns How close is close enough when we are talking about a shell that big? A friend served in the Marines in Vietnam and said they always tried to get NGFS from the ships in the gulf if it was available. But most of all they loved the New Jersey's fire power. His comment was that even if they got close to the bunkers, that did the job. Steve Pelham, NH ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: "David Griffith" Subject: Glasgow Model Show 2002 I don't know if any SMMLies were planning on going to the Glasgow Model Show on Saturday, October 5th 2002, hosted jointly by Glasgow IPMS and Glasgow Model Armoured Group. Due to unforseen circumstances, the venue has had to be changed. It will no longer be at the Nautical College, but will instead be at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, next to the Museum of Transport, and across the road from the City Museum and Art Gallery. The change happened at such short notice that it was not possible to get it into the modelling press. However, it would appear that it will probably be a much better venue, and the hosts hope that it will lead to a significant increase in attendance from the public, a great many more of whom will be passing, due to other attractions in the area. If any of you are there, do say "Hallo." I will be on the Glasgow IPMS stand for part of the day.
