But waht about RN armoured cruisers, from the 6 Cressy (1898), 4 Drake (1899), 6 County (1901), 6 Devonshire (1902), 2 Duke of Edinburgh (1903), 4 Warrior (1904) and 3 Minotaur (1905) classes, are there any ship kits in resin or otherwise? I understand there are kits of Invincible and Lion, when it comes to the later RN battle cruisers, has no-one made any of their forebears? << On armoured cruisers...... As far as I know there are also models available of the US armoured cruiser Brooklyn (some polish manufacturer), the Austro Hungarian protected cruiser Zenta (WSW), all Russian armoured cruisers are available from Kombrig and some Germans are available as HP makes the 'original' Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. The Italian Garibaldi class should also be possible by converting one of the Japanese curisers of this class (Azuma I think is available from Modelkrak). It think it is possible to convert the Kombrig Admiral Nakhimov into Imperieuse/Warspite (1887) but that will be a lot of work. Strangely the French and British ships that inspired all these ships are not available. There seems to be a gap between 1887 (Imperieuse/Warspite) and 1909 (Invincible). I think the lack of a significant war in this period may have something to do with it. Still, if we're making wishlists (WEM, WSW, HP are you listening?) I would add some protected cruisers like Edgar, Blake and Powerful. In terms of a balanced and in my view very beautiful profile and an interesting wartime carreer the Edgars (fought at the Dardanelles) would be nice for both Victorian and WW1 modelers. I mean, if HP can do the monitor Prince Eugen why not do a less ugly fellow member of the same bombardment force? Most of these items are in museum collections and they charge a hefty price for access and royalties. I have looked into this and came to the conclusion that there are other subjects that are easier to access and at far less cost. The path of least resistance! This is also one of the reasons that I have yet to do one of my books on a British subject. The royalty on a photo from the Imperial War Museum is in the area of £60 per photo, that's about $100 to us Yanks, per title. My books average 70 or so photos per book. My start up cost are just too high to justify that subject, so I look for others, like USN, Kriegsmarine and IJN. Also I have found some new sources for Italian Navy, but they are only about as good as the IJN, so not much photography, but enough. Based on that last sentence, you would deduce that I am working on an Italian subject? I am. Italian Heavy Cruisers of WWII, which should be ready by late next year. I am sub contracting my former partner to draw a plan and profile of each of the seven ships of this type in the Italian Navy. I have collected almost 200 photos, many never in print before. This will be a very interesting book, especially with all the wild camo patterns used by the IRN.
