I know White Ensign does a great job of mail order because I've ordered from them before. Normally I'd just do that again but this time it is really to my advantage to buy using cash rather than a credit card. I already emailed Caroline at WE and it sounds like credit cards are really the only easy way to buy from them. I may just do that, but wanted to know if I could get the kit domestically. I think Pacific Front carries WE kits. Anyone else? << Brookhurst Hobbies (Garden Grove, CA) carries White Ensign. Check them out at: http://www.brookhursthobbies.com/ David N. Any web site? << Randy, the Web address for ISW (Iron Shipwright) is www.commanderseries.com Michael ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Michael D'Silva" Subject: Re: RN Dreadnoughts >> My dream is to have each class of battle cruiser in 1:350. Probably be too old to care by the time THAT dream comes true..... << Hello Ted, At least you're being realistic about the time factor. I share the same view, given the commitment shown by manufacturers so far, it may not even happen in our lifetime. We'll live in hope, Michael ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "D.Przezdziecki" Subject: A treat for pre-dreadnoughts enthusiasts Have a look at Steel Navy's Ocober Mystery Model which IMO can only be 1/350 scale kit of USS Brooklyn by YS Master Pieces. If this indeed is the case than, boy, Yannis Sagiadinos does work FAST!!!!! He only started some time in the end of June and has the hull ready by the begining of October!!?? Best wishes D.P PS: Spencer Lawes opened an interesting possibility that USS Brooklyn might not be by YS Master Pieces but by ISW.... October Mystery Model gets more mysterious by the minute!!!! I will wait for the real designer to be revealed before progressing any further.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Daniel Bauer" Subject: Re: Who mail orders White Ensign in the USA Hello, I have mail ordered from White Ensign on several occasions. I have found their service to be excellent every time. Their shipment has been prompt and they have been swift in answering any questons I may have. Yes, you may find a certain model here in the US, but I think you will find it hard to find other people who know ships and shipmodeling as they do. Note: Caroline, you can send me my gift certificate anytime now! Best Regards, Dan Bauer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Darren Subject: Re: Masts of U.S.S. CONSTITUTION >> How many masts does U.S.S. CONSTITUTION (aka Old Ironsides) have? << Maybe not a trick question, but here's a trick answer! According to April 2002 issues of ALL HANDS, a US Navy magazine, there is a whole forest of masts and Lumber waiting to be harvested for the USS CONSTITUTION. Naval Service Warfare Center Crane in Indiana has 50,000 acres of forest that is maintained and protected by the Navy for use in repairing the ship as long as she is part of the USN. How's that for an answer!? Darren Scannell ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: TechnoInfidel@webtv.net (John Collins) Subject: Washes & Future Greetings all: Here's another wrinkle in the saga of washes. I usually use a darkened version of the color I want washed, ie., medium grey over light grey. I use acrylics almost exclusively. If the base color is glossy it simply add distilled water to thin it. If it is flat, I will add some Future to the wash to make it glossy. I will gloss the surface to be washed with Future. If I have trouble with surface tension, I will add a drop of dishwashing detergent to the wash. I've been using Future for years and have not had any of the problems mentioned. I spray it on in very thin coats. It does have a tendency to puddle or run if applied too heavily, so keep the airbrush moving. I don't use it for coating clear parts any more, as it's self-leveling feature tends to smooth out fine details. I use a plastic polish instead. I enjoyed Shaya's discussion of nautical trivia. I noticed that Skywave has released a resin kit of the IJN gunboat Uji. While I can find some data about this ship, I can't find any photos in my references. Could someone point me in the right direction? John Collins Franklin, TN, USA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From Lorna Subject: News from SANDLE Hobbies Hi everyone, Well, in addition to our ever-growing range of resin and photoetch we can now offer our customers plastic kits! That's right, we now have Airfix and Revell kits at not bad prices either. The Revell S-Boat is in, as is the QEII (WW2 Destroyer set came and went already). We are really excited about this development so all the other new stuff will have to wait till later or you can check the site.
