I asked WEM and Caroline did not have an answer and suggested I ask this list. The question is what parts of the WEM 1/72 Revell S-100 fret works on the Airfix 1/72 E-boat (S-10)? I have recieved the Airfix S-10 this week and have the Revell S-100 on order. Thanks for any help. John Willey ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: merc Subject: SF visit agreed: Hyde St. Pier is an excellent place to view the parade and airshow. I am hesitant to reveal this, wanting to avoid competition for rail space, but since it's already been mentioned.... also, be forwarned: if you intend to visit Hornet during fleet weekend, the Hangar Bay will be unrecognizable. they have scheduled one of their big band dances that Sat. night and the Hangar will more resemble a dance hall. also, Sunday they're doing another fundraising dinner, so the tables and such will still be in place. on such occasions, the aircraft are on the roof. not much of a view of the airshow from there, though usually the Blue Angels will make a pass on their way back to Oakland Airport after their performance. additionally, one of the visiting ships will be moored at Jack London Square in Oakland. near the berthing is the Potomac and the lightship--both worth visits. the lightship has limited hours, but you can see a lot from the pier. s ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "Stephen Allen" Subject: Re: Taney's decks Thanks to Tim and Bob and Vince for their replies concerning the Taney's decks, the white overall scheme and other comments concerning accuracy of the Revell kit. I have now incorporated these into my build. I am using scribed basswood for the deck, plank butts drawn in with pencil, with a thin veneer of plastic card for the steel areas. Looks a lot better than the kit deck and was a whole lot easier to do than I imagined (being a woodaphobe) and I can assure Tim that this Taney will not have any rust marks either! regards Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: John Snyder Subject: Re: Camouflage Volume IV (was Old References) >> I can tell you the thing is a minefield, I am in the process of compiling Camouflage volume 1V. I cannot tell you the fear that I am going through in anticipating the negative comments that will fall upon me at publication. I shall bear up of course. And being English (sort of), I will prevail. << Stiff upper lip, Old Chap, stiff upper lip! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Pletscher-Lenz-Schneider" Subject: USS Ward in 1/700 scale To rebuild into Dec.7, 1941 state, you'd better take one of the Britsh Towns from WSW. They only show the early British refits with four long stacks which comes much closer to that state. Falk Pletscher ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Pletscher-Lenz-Schneider" Subject: Seals Models kit of IWATE Mitsuaki Kubota was mentioning the new Seal Model kit of Iwata. Is this kit identical with their Izumo kit or are there different parts? Falk Pletscher ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Richard Sweeney Subject: Mr. Sweeney's response... But as many people are far more qualified to answer on many of the topics, I try to answer only when I feel I can give something useful. Many of the subscribers are very capable of giving very detailed and useful answers on a truely stunning array of topics, where as my answers might not be so useful, so I defer to their wisdom and knowledge. I try to live by the wise words of Samuel Clemens aka: Mark Twain, "It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are dumb, than to open your mouth and prove them right." Well, I try to live by those words, though not all that successfully, so I'm sure you'll hear from me again. There is a short history of HMS DIanthus by Michael J Watts as well as a selection of Flowers in postwar service with various navies. I am still waiting on permission to use the photos of the German Flowers (yes, they do exist), and am also looking for more photos of NON-RCN gunshield artwork. I already have some for Potenilla, Poppy and Dianthus, but would love to get more so as to do up a page on them as well. If anyone is interested in providing a history of other Flowers, I am thinking of eventually expanding the site to try and cover each ship wih available tidbits. . ie Poppy went to sea to the strains of Popeye the Sailor Man blaring over the Tannoy.
