USS JARRETT is Perry class frigate. I don't think she carries nukes either. Armament is described here: http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/ffg-7.htm I'd probably put my money on the BB. A good friend of mind wants to build one but I cant fine any plans or any body that may handle a set. So can any body help me like you did when I was needing dumous sub infomation, I think I can fine the long sub plans that looks like a long tube with a small top. That is the one that I am not looking for it is the fish looking one. O yes I may end up adding it my fleet (The Dumous Sup) I plan on looking at one soon thanks agin for the help << Don: A nice set of plans can be found at: http://www.20k.com/pages/content/blueprints/entire_large.jpg The orginal modeler was a man by the name of Harper Goff who created the sub for the Walt Disney co. I recall seeing a plastic kit for a Jules Verne sub many years ago. They may still have one they may be glad to get rid of, or they may know of a shop that still has one. They were certainly weird looking, which is all any kid needs to see. Other potential sources are E-Bay, U-Bid, Yahoo Auctions, and www.disturbingauctions.com., etc. Franklyn P.S. You referred to 20,000 Legs Under The Sea. The Jules Verne opus is "20,000 LEAGUES Under The Sea". "20,000 LEGS Under The Sea" properly describes Coney Island Beach in July. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Fkbrown90 Subject: Re: Jules Verne's sub to Don Macdonald After ruminating about Jules Verne's fictious sub for a while, I think the name of it was "Nautilus". If you inquire about kits and/or plans, be sure to NOT specify "U.S.S. NAUTILUS", and be sure to mention that what you want is NOT the steam powered U.S. Navy submarine which is now a museum piece in New London, Conn., I believe. Incidentally, the U.S.S. NAUTILUS is not the first steam powered submarine. The Royal Navy experimented with some, called K Class, in W W 1 (about 1917 or 1918). They were not a successful design. Having oil-fired conventional style steam boilers, they sometimes took as long as 5 minutes to submerge, not acceptable to the Navy. The propulsion machinery consisted of electric motors, driven by generators which were driven by steam turbines. In addition they had a back-up diesel engine. The latent heat in the boiler required the boiler room to be sealed off when submerged. This limited the time these vessels could remain submerged. Hoo- Boy, what a boon-doggle!!!!!! I am tempted to put my hands in a Kirov BCGN!!! However I would like to know more about the quality of the model or of the Kombrig models in general. By the way... WEM team!!! When does the Russian/Soviet 1/700 photo-etch set is coming out??? Some of my Portuguese fellow shipmodelers are curious to see it!!! Any hints in what it brings??? Thanks in advance. Best regards. Hi Guys The USS Jarrett FFG-33 is a Perry Class guided missile frigate. She measures 445 ft long,47.5 ft beam, and a draft of 25 ft. Displacing 3710 tons. Built in 1983 it's armament is 1 SAM-HARPOON launcher,1-76 mm gun, 6 torpedo tubes, and 1-20mm phalanx gun. Plus 4 -.50 caliber machine guns. Her weapons such as the missiles for the launcher ER-1 standard missile or the harpoon for anti ship use had ranges and explosive strenght that could seriously harm a battleship or other warship from WW2. Also they have nuclear weapons available to them. It's the operational outlook that current conflicts could be come that their equipped for that's different. I seem to recall a set of plans and a scratch building article (possibly separate) of this ship in "Scale Ship Modeler" magazine years ago. I can't find it though. Possibly in a "Submarine Special Edition"? There was a least one fiberglass hull made for this version, and one or more resin versions, but I don't know the manufacturers (I'm just a BUNCH of help!) The spindle-shaped versions are supposedly closer to the descriptions in the novel, but my recent reading left me with the conclusion very little information was given. However, my mind was numbed by endless descriptions of fish (that's what happens when your main character is a marine biologist.) Without the help of some great people on this site it has been a rough year finding referance info about subs and other sea faring vessels. My primary subject is Nuclear Subs., Although I have yet to get one done. I'm mainly interested in the SSN-589 USS Scorpion and the SSN-593 USS Thresher, so any info that you might have would be helpfull. I look forward to reading each news letter I get, so with that I will say farwell and happy building. Roy Knight ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 16) From: "Robert Mosher" Subject: Soviet Sverdlov Class Light Cruiser Murmansk Wreck Just over 2 years ago I raised the question with the list about at cruiser hulk resting in Norwegian waters that was reported to be the MURMANSK. This however raised a number of questions which I have only now been able to resolve. I have attached two photos (from the website www.knmskjold.com) of the hulk. From additional information elsewhere on that site and from www.hazegray.com it has become clear that the ship is in fact the Sverdlov class light cruiser MURMANSK, which was under tow heading for the scrap yard when it broke loose and came to rest as shown. This is in Norwegian waters along the coast and to the west of Hammerfest and the village of Alta. I noticed that at www.hazegray.com this ship was simply noted as having been scrapped so it would appear that the story of the Murmansk has not been widely told perhaps for reasons related to the then-ongoing Cold War but also to the lack of such forums as this and a tool such as the internet. If so, I don't know of any plans for her on sale as a stand alone product, but there is an extremely good Sci-Fi model specialist called Comet Miniatures based in South London, England, who offer a few kits of the boat, one of which includes a set of free blue prints. An expensive way to get a set of plans, without knowing how detailed they are in the first place admittedly. This is a link to the page on their Web Site that contains them. http://www.cometminiatures.co.uk/browse.asp?type=TV+and+movie+craft It has been a few years since I last visited their shop in Lavender Hill, but when I last visited ,I found it to be an amazing place with a very large range of Sci Fi/ Fantasy figures, kits, collectables & even actual TV props (Gerry Anderson stuff I remember, possibly Space 1999). They also used to deal with out of production mainstream kits, so they may have something to appeal to a maritime modeler also. Please note that I am not connected to them in any way, but have just been a satisfied customer. Regards. David Hi David, Having visited Comet for the first time last year, I couldn't agree more (picked up an Airfix Angel Interceptor ;-) ). Their second hand section was pretty damm good as well - we were lucky to escape from there with money still in the wallet.
