So was a supply of Phoenix missiles. Some of the components of the Hugh's radar AWG-9 that were left behind were made inoperable by parties unknown. There is no doubt the Soviets received what ever was left behind but it was old analog technology that was quickly surpassed with digital technology in the early 80s. Hope all is well, Bill Oreto-NJ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Edward and Eleta Malewitz" Subject: Re: To Craig on Sub question >> Hey Craig I think that is the one, To me it looks like a fish with a set of Eye balls, not sure on when the movie came out. So far I have not found any plan service that can send me a set of plans for this buddy of mind. Do you have some ideas on whear he can try to get a set? << There are a couple of very expensive kits of the Disney "Nautilus". Here's an address of the seller. http://www.scifimatters.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SMS&Product_Code=SFM-2016 I've always thought the Disney Nautilus was the finest looking warship I've ever seen. None of this over-the -horizon cruise missile nonsense. Ram 'em and tear their guts out! What a concept! Ed Malewitz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: lamkeel Subject: Steam Submarines of the RN Hi All I saw the message of a couple of days ago about steam powered submarines of WW 1, the notorious "K" class. In fact the RN had an earlier prototype design of 1916 also powered by a steam turbine. H M S/M Swordfish (later S1) and then again Swordfish. A surface displacement of 932 tons and 1470 tons submerged and 231' 3" overall. Powered by steam turbines of 3,750 H.P. to give a max surface speed of 18 knots. (If I recall the French built a steam powered submarine as well, but even earlier). The "K" class are in my plans list (two sheets) and back in the 1970's I drew the Swordfish, but my second wife (of a short duration) destroyed my drawings, although If I recall, it did appear in a model magazine. Another subject that I will redraw when time permits as I still have the original shipbuilders drawings. That period was certainly one of engineering inovation. Yours "Aye" John ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Mike Potter Subject: Sovremenniy deck colors >> Can anyone give me an idea of what a good color match (in acrylics, enamels, etc.) for the superstructure decks of the Sovremmeniy class ships might be? << When touring BOYEVOY of this class in San Diego in 1990, the main weather decks appeared gunmetal gray. The decks did not have non-skid and appeared to be plated instead of painted. The deck-edge trim, boot topping around deck houses, and most upper decks, were painted rust brown. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Andrew Jones" Subject: Perth's Maritime museum to open dec 1 Maritime Museum for Perth Perth will have a new world-class tourism facility when the WA Maritime Museum opens on December 1. "It will no doubt be one of Western Australia's great tourism opportunities as well as offering educational experiences," West Australian Culture and the Arts Minister Sheila McHale said. The entry fees will be $10 for adults, $5 concession, and $3 for children aged five to 15. Children under five will be admitted free. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Andrew Jones" Subject: Author of 'Band of Brothers' dies Stephen E Ambrose, whose best-selling books made America's aging World War II veterans hometown heroes again has died, aged 66. Ambrose, a longtime smoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer in April ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Dafuelmann Subject: NAUTILAS PLANS Hi Don, I was able to save the plans in question as a jpg file & also print it out. I'll email or mail you them if you like. David ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Dafuelmann Subject: Spanish Galleon Don, I also have a color sketch of a galleon from a coffee table book on sailing ships. Among other things it shows the deck arrangement. Want a copy along with the NAUTILAS plans? David ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "D.Przezdziecki" Subject: Re: Brooklyn If observed from a distance and at a certain light conditions the Mystery Model no.1 at Steel Navy.com appears to look a bit like Brooklyn but since nobody seems to be very keen to reveal himself as a author or a producer we will just have to wait and see.
