They're not yet listed on the Testors web site, and there was no brochure, but there are currently about 50 colors available. Half were what could be called "general" colors and the rest were based on WW2 camouflage colors of the US, Japanese, and German navies. The half-ounce bottles sell for about US$2.50 each. Can anyone point me at the appropriate archive that can tell me whether the Australian Tribals were the same (generally) as the UK and Canadian ones or not? A work colleague's father served on the Arunta and he's looking for a medium sized model of one. He knows of the massive 1/72nd scale version about but he was looking for something about a foot long. Can anyone help? I have Classic warships Benson/Gleaves book and on pages 8 and 9. You'll find a broadside photos of the Madison DD-425 and Niblack DD-424 showing 2 .50 guns behind the 2nd gun mount between the bridge where 20mm would later go and 2 more just behind the first set of torpedo tubes. Norman Friedman's book on destroyers states that they were orginially designed with 4 in mind and grew to 6. Well I hope this of help. Craig ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Jim Chaconas Subject: Re: Oak vs teak To: Alan R Millen In the 18th and into the 19th centuries, captains fought long and hard against the use of teak over oak or even pine decks, this was due to high infection rates caused when splintering (which was the major cause of death) As to the later use of teak over steel, i.e. 20th century, it appears that everyone's comments are very valid, traction, less flying metal, I doubt if it was a carry over for 'holystoning' to keep the deck personnel busy, although.........my $.019 worth. You won't be disappointed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: David Gregory Subject: Re: Shorth Hull S-boats The forward 20mm position on S-57 was a later addition. The twin 20mm aft was also a later modification. Many of the Adriatic S-boats carried a triple 15mm MG151 mount midships as well- reference the picture near the end of Wiper's book of S-61 and the three S-151 class. The S-151-58 were truly "short hull" boats as the were in the 90-95' range (don't have my books right here to look up the exact length). These boats were dubbed Maxchen, or "Little Max," by the S-flotillas. They did not have the forward gun pit and has a slightly different bridge structure. Dave G. (Sets S-12 and S-13) PitRoad/Skywave all produce Russian Echo II SSGN that includes F-15, F16 and F4E with an extensive list of decals options and an excellent underwing weapons and fuel tanks for the aircrafts. (Set M-9) However a lot of other airwings are not yet available. For example, and just to mention a few, and for sure the most wanted: LHA Saipan and LHD Wasp Class: (AV-8B Harrier II, OV-22, CH-46E Sea Knight, CH-53E Sea Stallion, AH-1W SuperCobra (1), UH-1N Twin Huey and. Single engine too!) RN Illustrious : Sea Harrier FA2, Harrier GR-7, Sea King ASW Mk5/6, SeaKing AEW-2 RN Ocean, Albion and Fearless : AH-64 Apache, Sea King Commando HC-4, CH-47 Chinook (1), EH-01 Merlin, Gazelle, Lynx/Super Lynx Mk5 (all versions, Navy, Army wheel, Army skid) Both aircraft and helicopters I mentioned are also in use by many European Navies and carriers, like Spanish Principe de Asturias or Italian Giuseppi Garibaldi. Another challenge: please include multiple Decals options, Folded and Extended blades option, and External weapons for both Helicopters and aircrafts. I'm absolutely sure, the production of such sets will be a success worldwide. 2) 1/700 Plastic Modern European and Overseas Warships: Why none of the modern warships in use in by European Navies is produced in 1/700 scale? I won't mention all navies, but take a look the warhships in use by Germany, Holland, France, Italy, UK, Greece Turkey, just to mentioned a few For example, Meko200 class Frigates, are used by Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand Navies. Wont the European Market interesting for the plastic scale model manufactures? best regards Ayala Botto Lisbon/Portugal Notes: (1)-Already included in PitRoad/Skywave Set E-1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: "D.Przezdziecki" Subject: A thumbnails sketch from Telford Well, first day of IPMS is over and what a great day it was. I could only spend about 5 hours there and didn't do much of browsing or buying. I had better things to do... I have introduced myself to John Snyder form White Ensign, met Alan Raven and than spend most of my time chatting with Yannis Sagiadinos, Jim Baumann, Jean-Paul Binot and John Rule. What a great bunch of guys!!!!
