That's the best price I've heard of so far. They also are selling the Toms detail set and the extra aircraft sets as well at a good prices. They say the kits will be delivered Dec 15 and are taking orders for them now. http://tridenthobbies.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=NM&Product_Code=TRP5601 Rusty White IPMS/USA #20181 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: NAVYDAZE@aol.com Subject: Where do models go! I know a lot of you all are young pups and some are in the senior category - and of course some like myself who are in the "middle age denial stage." So has anyone thought about what happens to your models when we take that "final voyage." As a Social Worker in a retirement home I see death several times a week. Even though they have money, by the time they reach the end of their lives they have no homes (they can no longer take care of themselves), very few possessions and so on - everything we now take for granted Might want to take the time to think about where or what you want done with your model collection - last thing you want is some grandkid saying, "Oh mommy can I play with the pretty boats" - CRUNCH! Sorry about that. I have straightened out my files now, and to recap things, If you would like a copy of the Navy war surplus conversion drawing for a W W 1 sub chaser, at no charge, just give me your postal address and I will be glad to send it along. In particular to John Snyder, and especially to Don Pruel for emailing the original plans. In addition, for the minority among us who are interested in Royal Navy ships, I recently discovered a couple of useful websites with lots of photies, www.cyber-heritage.co.uk (amongst lots of other things about Plymouth) www.navyphotos.co.uk (just ships on this one) I'm sure the people who run the sites won't object to the plug! Regards, David Griffith ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: annobon4 Subject: USN Paint, Benson & BB Radar Hi Does any one know if during the WW2 era if the USN had it's own paint factories at it's shipyards for providing paint made to their specifications. Also after reading the floating drydock book on USN camouflage of WW2 it makes me wonder how long did a order for paint take to be made and delievered to the Navy. Their orders must been huge in production. Also how much did the new Skywave/Pitroad Benson/Gleaves class kits cost? I went to my local hobby shop after being told they were getting a delievery and after 8 days they were sold out. Lastly at the time of Pearl Harbor did these US Battleships have radar: the Oklahoma ,Utah, and the Nevada. Does any one know of books on the Oklahoma? Craig Bennett ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: SHIPMDLR@aol.com Subject: Nimitz Project For those of you who don't know, IPMS Metro (the guys bringing you the 2003 Nats) are in negotiation with the Omniplex Museum in Oklahoma City, OK USA to build a 1/72 scale, 15 foot long Nimitz class carrier for display. I have located the LAST 1/72 scale hull anywhere for the build and the museum big wigs are in serious discussion to fund the project. I met with the curator today and pitched the project to him using a proposed budget, a rendering of the finished display, two issues of FSM, and all the bulls**t I could shovel. No firm decision yet, but I expect one VERY soon. The curator is thrilled to death to get a model of this magnitude with free labor by IPMS Metro. Especially after he saw the FSM articles. He kept the magazines to show the big wigs at the board meeting. So things look promising. This will be the chance of a lifetime for me as a ship builder to build something of this magnitude. More as things develop.
