If you give me an address, I can send you a copy or a scan of the drawing I used - it might give you some of the details. (I donīt think they have moved the 3") Regards Erik Erhardtsen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Chris.Evenden Subject: Trumpeter 2003 releases Hi All, The following have been announced by Trumpeter for 2003. I have just ordered it from WEM. R D Chesneau commented on a "stunning new book". To what would this be in reference to? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: royrichey Subject: Expedition Bismarck For all of you in the US, James Cameron's Expedetion: Bismarck, Discovery Channel, December 8th, 9:00pm ET. For those of you into bad movies: Sink the Bismarck!, History Channel, December 7th, 8:00pm and midnight. For those who want to pursue the USCG angle you may be interested to visit http://www.uscg.mil/hq/reserve/msg/coast419-00.htm which amends the Coast Guard coatings and color manual to the effect: FEEDBACK INDICATES THAT UNITS PREFER THE COLOR #17925 WHITE OVER THE #17875 WHITE BECAUSE THE FORMER HAS A BRIGHTER APPEARANCE. REF A IS AMENDED TO ACCOMMODATE THAT PREFERENCE This amendment was dated October 2000, but as no timeframe was specified and no funding allocated, I guess that the older FS colour will continue to be used until paint stocks are exhausted - I'm also not certain whether it applies only to reserve units. All this is somewhat academic from the 1:300 scale perspective, as I intend to use a flat or satin not gloss finish for the Cutter, but it certainly reinforces the preference for a bright white for USCG purposes. In finding this reference I also came across what looks like a useful 'on-line' FS 595b color 'fandeck' at http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorserver/ I'll leave it to the experts to argue out the accuracy of an online FS reference but it is fun to play with. What is even more remarkable is that I found this following a link on an official GSA help page about FS595b, so it appears that modeller's research can even help out the Government occasionally. And John, is there room for some USCG colors (Well, Spar anyway!) in the Colourcoat range? Next week would be good! regards Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Dain Webster" Subject: Saw info request I am looking for recommended scroll saws (Dremel and such) for cutting balsa, plastic, small guage metal and some ply and composets materials up to 1/4 inch or so. I have a old Dremel (about 30 years old!) and am in the mood for an upgrade to something more precise. What recommendations would all ye ship builders have? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: roberto paredes Subject: Clarifying some doubts about chilean navy Hi guys, First of all, apologies for my delay, but I couldn't response your mails on time because I had problems to receive some SMML's mail. Michael ask about the ship colours. Right now I don't have the detail on my hand but I will look for. In relation to Almirante Class destroyer plans, they should be in the Chilean Navy Museum (cguzman@armada.cl), but they are not too fast to response. Anyway, I will try to get them from a friend that buid ships in 1/100 scale, maybe he could get them. Chris wrote: >> the deck colours of the lattore class are same as RN" it's right, but the plan of every County destroyer was modified except the Latorre (ex-Glamorgan), in reserve since 1999. The Cochrane (ex-Antrim) and Blanco Encalada (ex-Fife) have a big helo deck for 2 Cougar helo (naval Puma) and the Prat (ex-Norfolk) received a more simple modification, so it has a new helo deck to receive just only one Cougar helo. If you like to see some pictures, please visit the destroyer's page (http://www.geocities.com/licanwin/english/destroye.htm) in my site. If you have more doubts about the chilean navy, please, feel free to contact me.
