Has anybody heard for sure just how much of the boat that they found or how much they think there is under the sand? I got the impression that they (Ballard)are saying that is more that than meets the eye, does anybody know for sure? Just wondering, thanks ;-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: JVT7532 Subject: interesting story on the Japanese Sub at Pearl Harbor Thanks for sharing Henry, I really enjoyed seeing the site with some great video of the sub. Shame the Ward did not have a video to send to H.Q. in Pearl back in 41. Best regards, Jon ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: paulship37 Subject: Interesting item on eBay I saw this item for sale at eBay Memoir: Battleship Yamato - Yoshida Mitsuru http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1976330988 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: cfrieden Subject: Help Finding Liberty Ship Model Kit David, Right now the only option in 1/350 scale is the Iron Shipwright resin kit, which at $175 is a bit out of the price range you mention. It has been discontinued, but according to their website some are still in stock. This kit represents the standard Liberty ship design. The Trumpeter kit you mention has only been announced for release in the next year or so. L’Arsenal has a kit that is due out soon. A few photos were recently posted on their site (www.larsenal.com). It appears to represent a later Liberty ship with features seen on the Jeremiah O’Brien, including the cut down gunnels aft and the helium storage locker under the after gun deck. I've done some drawings of the launcher based on photos and info I've gotten from some veteran gunboat sailors. Really need info on the platform the radar was mounted on. Thanks and have a Great Navy Day! Matt Prager ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: John Snyder Subject: Re: More Aircraft Colours/Help Finding Liberty Ship Model Kit >> First, why are four colo(u)rs needed for a three-colo(u)r scheme? << I dunno--I've often wondered the same thing. I suspect it's because it was basically a Sea Blue/Intermediate Blue/White scheme, even though it used two different Sea Blues. You know how the Navy is... >> Second, why not Non-Specular Sea Blue? This is what I have always used to good result on my three colo(u)r, three-colo(u)r schemes. << Because according to the Bible (The Monogram Guide) the scheme used (IIRC) Semi-Gloss Sea Blue on the upper wing surfaces, and Non-Specular Sea Blue on the upper fuselage above the Intermediate Blue. >> Inquiring wingie thingie modelers want to know. << Best I can do, Mate--been WAAAAAAY too long since I built wingie thingies (and Barry, our paint man) has my copy of the Monogram Guide so I can't quote directly from that. >> I am trying to locate a model kit -- preferrably plastic -- of a WWII Liberty Ship to build as a gift for my dad. I'm looking for a finished product of 12-14" inches (1:350 scale) and less than $100. << Be patient for a little while longer. L'Arsenal has announced a 1/350 Liberty ship, though we won't know the price for a while. So my question is at the commencement of the Midway action, how many aircraft was Hornet actually carrying? and what was the split of F4F/SBD/TBD Colin Ritchie ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: arthur w rohloff Subject: Discovery Channel Program Heads Up As a heads up to everyone, my TV guide for the week is listing a Discovery Channel program on Wednesday, December 4, at 8pm CDT, entitled, "Pearl Harbor: Death of the Arizona". The brief description is as follows: "As the 60th anniversary of the attack on the Hawaiian military base approaches, this new special recalls the bombing that set off the assault. The destruction of the battleship Arizona cost the lives of nearly 1,200 crew members. Modern techniques are applied to archival footage to document the precise moment of the attack.
