Wild Swan seems to be selling (in advance) like hot cakes, one can only hope that a 1/350th version will be on the stocks A.S.A.P. (Hint, Hint ?) (Please !) I have in mind BlueJacket Ship Crafters 1/192 kit of CVE-73, GAMBIER BAY, which carried a composite air wing of Grumman TBMs and FMs. The resin-cast aircraft which come with the kit are nicely done and even have separate wings which are cast on the wing fold line, but they all have solid canopies. I'd want to vacuum-form new transparent canopies and add some cockpit detailing such as armor plate, seat & harness, flight controls, & etc., and think your PE sets, being as excellent as they are, would be a natural for this. Any possibility here? Bob Steinbrunn Minneapolis Nautical Research Guild ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Vincent.Mccullough Subject: WEM Photoetch I just received WEM's new 1:350 quad 1.1 AA set, and they are beautiful! The surface relief on the fret is going to make these a great addition to the GulfStream Atlanta (CL-51) that I'm building. I haven't assembled one yet, they look like they should go together easily, and will provide a lot more detail than the stock resin and brass mounts. I also ordered the "Ultimate Yamato" set to squirrel away for a future project, and it is equally nice. Great work as usual, WEM! SOurces from the Hong Kong based independant Chinese language Ming Pao Daily reported the the new 4.8billion ($AUD892million) aircraft carrier is slated to be in the water in 2003, although it will take another 2 years to have her fully ready for operational service" hmmm interesting...guess they would have had to re-do the deck to allow it to take the weight of the Sukhoi fighters compared to our old Skyhawks ??? ... also would not it have been easier, just to paint the deck marking on a runway (llike for the Doolittle raiders) regards Andrew Jones Oz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: John Wressell Subject: Nichrome Still hoping that someone can tell me the gauge to use for Nichrome wire on 1/350 scale models. Thanks, John Wressell ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: John Kutina Subject: BAE wins aircraft carriers contract http://www.dailytelegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2003/01/31/cnbae31.xml&sSheet=/money/2003/01/31/ixfrontcity.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: Shane Subject: RAN Type 12 Frigates - or why didn't I take photos when I could Hi all, After looking at Alan Jennings photos of HMS Leander (see site update), I dragged out my Airfix 1/600 HMS Leanders & started looking for refs to convert it to the RAN Type 12s: HMAS Yarra, Parramatta, Stuart, Derwent, Swan and Torrens. After scouring my refs & the net, I discovered to my dismay there was hardly any photos to be had. So if anyone can help with photos of them at any time during their career, I would be extremely grateful. Now if only I had taken photos whilst working at HMA Dockyard Garden Is in the 80s when the ships were always around I wouldn't be in this situation :-(( All the best, Shane ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Mistress Lorna Subject: SMML site update Well, it's the weekend again and time for us to provide you with some interesting reading and some interesting viewing as well. There's new Mainbrace Gallery pages for Alan Jennings (the way he has done the water for his models makes me want to try something similar for the Furious) and David Griffith. The articles section has been graced with a perspective on model ship collecting by author Jim Bloom. While the reference section has had the following added: Malta, HMS Phoebe and RV Triton added to British References (some great photos of Malta in the late 1940's) Sverdlov added to Russian References NRP Corte Real added to Portugese References Photos of USS Enterprise CVN-65 tan decks added to Misc References Plus the Archives have been updated with Issues 2099 - 2108 There!
