No spaces in the link. It looks good to me. Hull is said to be right, not plump as in the Hornet kit. http://www.internetmodeler.com/2003/march/first-looks/Tru_Essex.htm Regards, Dave ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Devin J. (the model, not the actual USS Pensacola). Is it a kit, ready built? Never heard of that company. Devin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "robert patmore" Subject: Book - Amazon to Ivanhoe to John Sutherland Re Amazon to Ivanhoe I brought up BookFinder.com and they show one copy of this title. You may want to bring up the web sight to verify the availability as books sometimes sell quickly. The following information was shown: The Stratford Bookshop-Susan Hill price $13.21 45A Rother Street Stratford Upon Avon Warwickshire CV37 6LT-UK Telephone- 01789 298362 E-Mail stratfordbshop@aol.com Details; World Ship Society 1993 !st Edition VG Soft Cover - Spine faded Ref 639 GBP 8.50 US Dollars approx. $13.21 Bob Patmore ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: stillmo Subject: further to posting by Rod Dauteuil Hi Rod, Ray here from Canada.....I have been in touch with PANDA DML for "some time' now as they approached me for assistance in their R and D. They had a team of researchers all over the INTREPID in NYC last month.......I believe they will certainly market an angled deck 27Charlie in 04 as INTREPID. However, ...... there is a distinct difference between the INTREPID and the LEXINGTON......sure they were modernised ESSEXs but each came out of the yards looking quite different. INTREPID has a distinctive knuckle bow with the bridle horns and stem anchor. LEXINGTON's bow shape is more bulbous, triangularly shaped with no knuckle. Second MAJOR difference here will be the placement of the aircraft handling crane and sponsons on starboard side. INTREPID has hers mounted forward of the elevator rig, LEXINGTON has hers placed aft. Either way, its gonna be a chop and hack depending which one you do----and what DML actually does. Since they were at INTREPID in NYC.... I am sure it will resemble CV 11 far more than CV 16. The island designs for the most part were pretty much the same with all the ESSEXs conversions, with exceptions to the electronic suites. INTREPID retained her empty gun tubs on sponsons aft on the fantail....cant remember off hand if LEXINGTON CVT 16 retained hers to the bitter end. I never proclaimed myself to be any kind of expert on these ships, but I have studied these designs for many, many years. RD Bean ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Steven P. Allen" Subject: Re: Saratoga References and 1/350 carriers >> Changing gears to the subject of 1/350 carriers, . . . , a company called Panda Models has a USS Lexington, CV16, with an angled deck in their catalog. They also list a USS Intrepid, presumably the same basic kit with an angled deck. I seem to recall another company announced a Lexington class carrier, but I could be wrong. . . . Let's hope they follow through, and please, spend the money for these kits. That's how you send a message that the product will be successful. Lack of sales = lack of interest = lack of models. << Just point me at one of these -125s, and my wallet is open. D'ya hear that manufacturers: bring out a plastic modernized Essex w/angled deck, and I *WILL* spend (reasonable) money on it. Steve Allen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "DUCKMAN" Subject: PENNSY TUGBOAT KEITH AND ALL INTERESTED, Try "GREAT LAKES MODELING.COM". This may help. DAVID IN DIXIE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Peter Subject: 1/350 Arleigh Burke in March? A HASEGAWA advertisement in the April edition of Japanese magazine "Model Art" shows that the Panda Models' 1/350 Arleigh Burke is expected to be for sale in March, for Y2800 (about US $25). Hasegawa will distribute the kit in Japan. There was only a tiny photo of a completed ship, so I could not judge the quality. Hobbylink Japan lists it as a pre-order. This is looking like a great year for ship kits. Peter ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: MRCSCARDON Subject: HMS Howe and HMS Anson deck colors What color was used on the deck of the HMS Howe in late 1942-early 1943? What color was used on the deck of the HMS Anson in March 1945? I have a photo of the HMS Howe showing a uniform dark color at the time in question. I have no photos of the HMS Anson. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "bert" Subject: Re: H.M.S. Glorious John, I Think you are right to be sceptical, as an ex R.Ner I believe that she would have carried a 45Ft motor boat for the Captain and probably some smaller motor boats as well. I can't see R.N. officers going ashore in whalers and cutters or mixing it with o.r's on the deck of a motor fishing vessel! After all she may have been old, but she was a Capital ship. Yours Aye, bert (TaT) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: "Nick and Joy Rogers" Subject: HMS Glorious 1940 Ships Boats References Attention John Sutherland, Re:- Your Inquiry about HMS Glorious in SMML Vol 2135. I remember leafing thru copies of Model Shipwright magazine in the Auckland Central Library. Brian King's two part article on his scratch-built large scale model of the unlucky aircraft carrier HMS Glorious was remarkable. Thanks to a Google.com search, the Year was 1998. Issues 103/104. Pages 3-11 & 33-41. Photos of the model + details and diagrams. Brian King used the original plans of the conversion. The project was full of amazing stuff like Brian drawing up his own photo-etch set for Glorious. He has written a book called "Advanced Shipbuilding". Published by Nexus Special Interests,UK. ISBN 1-85486-197-2 in 2000. Perhaps SMML members could put you in touch with this guy who most certainly could answer your question about the boats. We know there are many more ship modelers in the area than belong to the eight clubs that are participating in this show. How many might join one or more of the clubs if they just knew about us? How many prospective model builders might enter the hobby after attending this show? The radio control part of the hobby is often a family affair, with Dad, Mom and kids all having models running on the water. The models our members will have on display will include many award winning ship models from local, national and international competitions. There will be many models on display ranging from miniature models less than six inches long, of fully rigged sailing ships, all the way up to an eight foot long operating PT Boat able to launch an operating torpedo. The model builders will be on hand to answer questions and explain how these great models are built and operated. Admission is free. All parking is free and indoor and close to the entrance. There will be club members on hand to help direct people into the show. The show space is one block from the Oakbrook Shopping Center and there are many fine restaurants as well as fast food outlets in close proximity to the show for lunch. The Oakbrook Terrace Park District Health Club is one stoplight west of Rt. 83 on the north side of 22nd Street in the lower level of the high rise office building adjacent to the REI Store. Enter the parking lot to the right and follow the signs for the lower-level parking garage.
