We will have a display stand there for SANDLE, as part of the Model Alliance Group (see below). So if any SMMLies are attending, please pop over and say hello. All the best, Shane ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Marvin Reichman Subject: Resin parts Are there any books or articles on how to work with resin parts such as removing parts from stems, shapiog, shaping, sanding and proper adhesives to use. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Marvin O.Reichman ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: paulship37 Subject: Interesting items on eBay I saw these items for sale at eBay 1/400 Aluminum Aircraft Carrier Free Shipping http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3119393361 DESTROYER WARSHIP MODEL: RATHER GOOD: LOOK !! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3117320313 1/350 4-060 USS PT-562 Resin Torpedo Boat http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3117328965 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: D Wakefield Subject: Saratoga Arrived I got the model(s) today. Guess I'm spoiled by Fujimi's current aircraft kits, but I'm sorta disappointed with this one. Yeah, it's workable, and it's not as bad as those Revell kits I ditched last summer, but a Skywave it ain't!! Heck...they didn't even include the catwalk between the bridge & funnel (got it in the boxart, but not the model itself...what's up with THAT!!). I knew about the torpedo bulge not being there, but...oooh, the aftermarket guys & booksellers are gonna love my six on this project. The Sara's my fav carrier (equivalent to my facination with the California carrier wise), so I can't do this project half-arsed. Although suddenly, I'm inspired to do a larger model of the smokestack and adjacent deck with the words "CV-3 Fly In Theater" painted on the smokestack (with projector on the deck, a pic from an old Clark Gable or Errol Flynn movie on the smokestack, and the planes all lined up on the deck like they were at a drive in theater). Yeah...I'm warped, but if you can't have some fun with your hobby once in awhile, what's the point! ^_^ Derek "Gone Crazy-Back Soon!" Wakefield ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: ZMzimmerman Subject: boat davits I am looking for replacement boat davits in any medium for the 1/700 liner Sobieski by HP. Thanks, Michael Zimmerman Dallas, Texas ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: Ned Barnett Subject: Gun Plot Midway? >> A web friend sent a URL to me regarding the following site that recently added a link of his personal account of the Battle of Midway and the loss of the USS Yorktown, and it puts a very different spin on the final hours of CV5 than that offered by the USN. Gun Plot < http://www.gunplot.net/portol/html/links.php > for the most direct link connection to Peter "Flags" Karetka's site. Gun Plot home page is, http://www.gunplot.net A most interesting site for the Australian Navy. Of course many of you may already know this. Direct URL to "Flags" And if you would please sign his guest book he would appreciate it. << Paul Neat site, but I could find nothing about Midway. Even did a search "Battle of Midway" and came up with nothing. Wassup? Ned ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Ned Barnett Subject: Welcome to Southern Nevada, John and Caroline! >> Well, Caroline and I are in southern Nevada for 2 weeks, meaning that Dave is running things solo at South Farm. In view of that, we'd like to ask that our customers minimise phone calls to make Dave's job easier. He'll have lots to do to keep the orders going out. We'll continue to answer all the e-mails we can from Stateside, so just bear with us. << Couldn't pass up the opportunity to welcome you to the winter monsoon season (breaking our three year drought - yes, deserts do have droughts) here in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada; perhaps you'll bring some good weather with you! Have a great time on your vacation ... All the best Ned ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: James Corley Subject: Re: USS Salt Lake City camo >> Did the camo for the USS Salt Lake City (1944) 34d14  extend to the deck as well Where can I find a good camo pattern for this ship? << for photos look at: http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/usnsh-s/ca25.htm This site in general is a good place to find a basic set of photos for most ships, many of which have never been published. As for the camo, it was pattern 33/14d and there is one photo of her in that scheme, which goes to the decks and up the sides of the superstructure too. dOESN'T LOOK LIKE MUCH OF THE SUPERSTRUCTURE IS (OOPS!) painted in the darker colors, but the aft half of the A turret is black with the funnel and aft deckhouse being 5-O. According to the camo site, Ms33 was a light system while Ms32 was the dark system. The photo indicates that the colors used were from Ms32, not Ms33: Black, 5-O, 5-L http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/n60000/n67713.jpg http://shipcamouflage.com/measures.htm James ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "James M. Pasquill, II" Subject: Re: Pennsylavania RR tugs railmarineops@yahoogroups.com There have been plans for the PA R.R. tugs in the model railroad mags in the past. Ask the guys on the above list. They are almost all NY harbor rail op. fans. They will know where to find just the right plans for you and can probably tell you how the tug was painted and where it was stationed in any given month. -J ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Ian McBean" Subject: Waterline display angles Hi all, I've been thinking about setting my 350 waterline 'underway' KGV at an angle in its display or not, and was wondering if there's any sort of consensus on the subject. Looking around the galleries some do, some don't. Certainly the angled displays look dramatic, but they do take up a lot more space. I'm in two minds... Thanks for any thoughts, Ian M ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: "Glenn and Kelly Neklason" Subject: LST's & LSI's Hi All I've a friend involved in the restoration of LST-1166 & LCI-713. Obviously a big job, and they're in need of many spare parts. Any ideas? Thanks, Glenn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: "Keith Bender" Subject: Re: Pennsy Tugboats Hi SMMLies, Thank you for your suggestions on where to find PA tugboat plans. I now checked out the PRRHS site. Found some good color photos too. Thanks gang, Keith ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: MRCSCARDON Subject: HMS Anson deck color John at WEM Would the entire deck (all horizontals) be painted B15? Was the wood painted or natural? Or is the wood a case of anyones guess. American ships are a lot easier. Thank you for the response. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Darren Scannell Subject: Re: SSSMMLiecon >> He has to be beaten, whipped tortured etc till he agrees to preform the routine he did in Butterly's hotel room at the First SMMLCon in Mass. I'll bring the Video Camera!! << Who's gonna supply the copious quantities of Scotch to get him warmed up? I already got a fair sized loan. >> Is that said with resignation or anticipation?? :-) << Yes! ; ) Darren ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Alan Cameron" Subject: Re: Melbourne Comp - IMPS Australia Inc Hi Andrew and to all others in and around Melbourne: The 20th anniversary Model Expo is on at the Royal Agriculture Society Showgrounds on Epsom Road, Ascot Vale (near the Flemington Racecourse) Melways Map Ref: 28 F12 or use Tram #57.
