Re CVN 65 Rebuild..... ENTERPRISE lost her original so called beehive in the 1982 83 yard period at Bremerton. She was further modernised in 1990 1991 at Newport News, and did not take part in the first Gulf War. Recently, she just exited another year long yard period at Norfolk Va., and as of yet I have seen no post refit pics after this yard period, although I did see her myself in the graving dock in the fall. I have a 'hunch'.. that maybe, just maybe, since she was in the graving dock so long, that she may have received the huge new underwater bulbous bow that the Ronald Reagan is now fitted. Ray D. Bean ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Mike Kear" Subject: TV Alert - Australia - Endeavour For Australians - on Tuesday 8pm on ABC in Sydney (check your guides to make sure it's on where you are) a program called "The Ship" about the HMS Endeavour replica. From what I can see in the trailer, it's about the health of the vounteers who sail the ship, with lots of footage of the ship at sea. MUST SEE! Clary Townsend ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Keith Bender" Subject: Re: Big E beehive Hi SMMLies, The Enterprise's behive was removed during the 79-83 yard overhaul. I know this as a fact because those were the exact years I was in the navy and I wanted to get on her but there were no openings for an ABF at the time. She had a skeleton crew. KTB ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Keith Bender" Subject: "Auto Etch" Photoetch System Good Morning, Has anyone out there used the photoetch system by "Auto-Etch"? It comes from Philadelphia, PA. I'm using a friends but need the plates and the rest of the garb that goes with it. I can't get in touch with them and I'm beginning to believe their out of business. I know Radio Shack has a few things but I not ready to try them yet. Thank you, KTB ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: DLandolt Subject: Re: Enterprise Island Yes the Enterprise island beehive was taken out during the 79-82 refit. Then Tamiya came aboard and reseached the ship for their present model. One was made at the Tamiya factory and given to the ships captain and when the model was released to the public; if you were a crew member of the ship and could prove it, you could purchase one for $65.00; (ships hull number). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Jim Chaconas Subject: Mauretania To: Michael D'Silva For further research on this topic, a January 1996 article in 'Model Ship Builder' by Charles Dick on his "detailing and upgrading" of the Airfix Kit is very useful. It is found in volumes 99 & 100. If you have trouble locating/procuring these vol. contact me off line and I will scan them for you.
