After the convoy battle Italian divers recovered Mohawk's charts of Alexandria. The Italian navy used Mohawk's charts for the raid there in November 1941, when frogmen crippled the battleships Valiant and Queen Elizabeth. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: stillmo Subject: Re: Panda ARLEIGH BURKE, DML etc I would hesitate placing the Panda kit on the same level as the Lindberg kit........it is not without its shortcomings, and i believe a lot of the plastic companies may be inentionally leaving out some details since most of us (I say that loosely) will be enhancing the kits with full PE upgrades. Yes, the hull bumps and the raised helo deck markings are a pain. and the anchor chains......they can be sanded off. Hull shape is decent, but not too far off. Hey its $25.00. Wanna spend $200 on the resin kit if you can find it? (Ive got one, I will sell you no problem). DRAGON is DML, and Panda is an offshoot of DML......I do not want to interpret that as a high or low end version either. I was walking around a lot of Arleigh Burkes at Norfolk a couple weeks back, and noted that Panda got the funnel vents right, the uptakes right, the bridge correct, its just that a lot of surface detail can be added in with PE. It is an unknown as to whether Tamiya will upgrade any of their 350th kits at all. I think we will have to look to Trumpy and Panda to fill in additional voids in 350th---and yes, there will be production errors, as there was with the Hornet...but hey, thats what we do, we fix them and build them. There has hardly been a rumble of discontent about the Panda AB kit, and they are going to be doing a Flite II and based on the hull of the current one. I know this because I have been sending them photographs by their request. Ray D. I will be going with dark grey painted steel for sure. Ken Hoolihan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Ken Hoolihan" Subject: Ship plans by Norman Ough David McGregor used to carry the Norman Ough range of plans and he advertised his plans service in various UK ship modelling magazines such as Model Boats. His advertisments now seem to have dissappeared from these magazines. Does anyone know if he is still in business and/or if there is an alternative source for the Norman Ough plans. Ken Hoolihan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Craig Bennett" Subject: Re: Dragon, Panda, Trumpeter and Tamiya Hi Concerning new releases from Tamiya. In July there will be a new 1/700 scale USS Missouri (1944-5)the hull will be waterline and come in halves and with a new square bridge Fletcher class destroyer USS Cushing DD-797 in 1/700 scale looks like 1943 era with 5 twin mounts of 40mm. What are these things? Surely, the only Sea Hawk was the Fleet Air Arm's Armstrong Whitworth Sea Hawk! Michael Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "M Brown" Subject: Ship's Colours Now for something for the SMLLs to think about. Does anyone know the grey used by the Indian Navy on their hulls or the green (olive green?) used for their decks? Michael Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Bob Pearson" Subject: Typhoon, April 1945 I just received the following message and am pretty sure that someone here can answer her question. Regards, Bob Pearson Flower Class corvettes http://www.cbrnp.com/RNP/Flower/index.htm Managing Editor / Internet Modeler http://www.internetmodeler.com >> Hello---My husband was in the US Navy on the USS Barnstable APA 93 during WW 2. He's trying to find out what the name of the typhoon was that was off the coast of Okinawa In early April 1945. (He said it was pretty scary!) We have tried every way we can think of to get that info with no results. He's been on several of the ships reunion committees and is now the VP, treasurer and historian for the ship. The name of that typhoon has really stumped all of the shipmates. Would truly appreciate it if you can help in this matter. Husband's name is Harold Chvarak << ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: Robert Lockie Subject: Schnellboot and corvette diorama Hi Someone posted this link on Missing Links as an example of an excellent diorama and I must say I am bound to agree.
