For a look at the most comprehensive review of Colourcoats, and recommendations on thinners, go to: http://www.steelnavy.com/wem_colourcoats.htm >> Of course, to the subjects of the Queen, Americans are all rich cowboys with no manners who drink chilled swill mislabeled beer. << Hi Joe, I may have grown up working as a cowboy on the family ranch, but I ain't rich, and I drink only the best British traditional ales.... Best regards, John Snyder White Ensign Models, Ltd. http://whiteensignmodels ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Stephen Varhegyi" Subject: To Frustrated Modeller Sounds to me like you're getting too emotional. Try to be logical in your approach. Think things through and don't rush projects. The main enemy of modellers is impatience. Test fit everything. Test your paints, airbrush, glues etc. before using. Have a well thought out plan prior to commencing any construction sequences. BUT ABOVE ALL REMEMBER......THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN. Thats all, Frazier has now left the building. Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Fkbrown90 Subject: Another apocryphal story To: Joe Poutre And don't forget the one about the Texan being interrogated by a British Customs agent whilst entering the U. K. When asked if he were an American subject, the Texan snorted "American subject? Hell no, I'm one of the owners of the place !". Franklyn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: SantMin Subject: Re: making models >> I have been doing models for a lost 20 year and as of late I have been very frustrated and overly hastate to start any new projects. I mainly I fear that any thing that I start I am going to mess up on which has happen more than I would like to say. Has anybody else ever thought of just throwing it all in, if so how does one over come it or does one grow out of doing models (which really suck big time, sorry) << WOW!! IMHO making models for most people on this list is supposed to be a hobby and a hobby is supposed to be FUN. My advice is this, if it's not FUN get out and get some other hobby Quickly. Bob Santos ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Daniel Taylor" Subject: Re: Thinning WEM Paints I've tried a number of WEM paints and I would agree that they are a little thinner than Humbrol. They do, however, thin with Humbrol thinner and are excellent to airbrush. Once you have a base coat on the opacity is okay for touching up areas with a brush. I have had one instance where the WEM paint dried out quickly once the tin was three-quarters used, but have not been using them long enough to say that this was usual. I can say though that I am very happy with the finish of the paint and it is reassuring to know that the colour is so well researched. I'll certainly be getting some more soon. Hope that's helpful, Dan Taylor ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: ok3wirebob Subject: Re: Franklyn's misattributed quote Actually, based on my asking (at Churchill's Chartwell residence), the attribute for the "common language" quotation is to Samuel Johnston (sp?), who was the famouse English grammer/dictionary guru. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Graeme Martin Subject: Seasprite helipcopter kits Hi All. I want to purchase a plastic kit, 1:72 scale of a Seasprite helicopter for the flight deck of a New Zealand Anzac frigate. Airfix and Fujimi seem to be the only two so far that I have found on the market through searching on the net. Since I will be purchasing from a store on the net I don't get to see the quality of the product in the box before I buy. Can anyone help here as to which is the better detailed helo or better still, is there another Seasprite kit in this scale out there on the market that I don't know about? Thanks in advance for any help. Graeme Martin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: PaulShip37 Subject: Re: Plans for unusual freighters A few posts ago someone was considering a model of a freighter outside the usual subjects. One way to go would be to pick up a paper/card model from one of the European sources and convert it to plastic.( or, just build it...) One source I came across was www.krick-modell/frameset.html This site has at least five kits of ships that would fit right into a convoy. And with descriptions like "Heizolfarzeug , Norderney," "Kombifracter,Schwan," "Peildampfer,Schaarhorn" and "Seebaderschiff,Konigin-Luise," how could you go wrong. Take a look. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: ShipModelMasters Subject: USS Ajax Need a set of plans or even better an unbuilt resin kit of the USS Ajax repair tender AR-6.
