Airfix and Fujimi seem to be the only two so far that I have found on the market through searching on the net. Since I will be purchasing from a store on the net I don't get to see the quality of the product in the box before I buy. Can anyone help here as to which is the better detailed helo or better still, is there another Seasprite kit in this scale out there on the market that I don't know about? Thanks in advance for any help. << Hi Graeme, I have both kits mentioned. I would personally recommend the Airfix SH-2 kit - I think it captures the original's contours better than the Fujimi example; having said that the Fujimi kit is still quite acceptable I think. Be careful of which version you intend to model though - both kits mentioned are of early SH -2F Seasprites; I believe the Kiwi's have now moved over to the 'G' model, with different GE T700 engines and larger cowlings (as per the Seahawk and Blackhawk), as well as quite a different weapons and sensor fit. If you wish to accurately reflect the newer version, you will be in for some conversion work. Just to confuse things further, Fujimi also did a version of the SH-2F with an experimental LAMPS type radar fit on the nose - make sure you don't get this one! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "George Peat" Subject: Re: 1/128 scale Walrus Hi Roger, The Walrus that you are after can be bought from Fleetscale. I had one when I built my 1/128 HMS Rodney George Peat ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: WRPRESSINC Subject: Re: Camouflage On the back of Camouflage Vol IV Royal Navy, there is a painting of the cruiser Effingham in 1940 just before her loss, showing a chevron pinted onto her funnel. I had always thought that this was the start of a scheme similar to that worn by the cruiser Suffolk and others in the same period. It turns out that that this was not the case according to records kept by the Foreman of Painters at Portsmouth Dockyard, who states that Effingham had just started to be painted in a scheme that was worn by cruisers York and Norfolk in 1940. She was suddenly despatched to join the Fleet with only the funnel painted up. I should soon be able to get my hands on these records and no doubt there will be more interesting things coming to light. Depending on the amount of data forthcoming from the above, there is the possibility of an addendum to any reprint of Camouflage Vol One. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Stuart Batchelor" Subject: Seasprite Helo I have not seen the Airfix version, so I can't comment on it. I own both of the Fujimi versions and built the SH-2F. They are both of average Fujimi quality for their age (20+ years?) but build in to decent models of what I think are attractive little choppers. With that caveat, I can recomend either of the Fujimi kits. As always, check you sources to make sure which one is correct for your needs, build it, and have fun. They now have the box art of the ships that I reported they showed in a previous post. The box art shows the Lex with her 5" guns, so maybe its the real deal & the box art for the Sara shows her in a splinter style cammo...so guess the models they showed were just the old kits, for some strange reason..be interesting to hear any shop owners here, to see what they think when they receive their stock or if anyone happens to buy one regards Andrew ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Phil Lord" Subject: 110' WW I SC resources Franklyn wrote, regarding the WW I SC-- >> In the process of researching my model to ensure accuracy, I have accumulated a wealth of drawings, specifications, photographs, literature, reports, books, magazine articles, etc. << Franklyn, is there a possibility that you might be creating a bibliography of those materials that pertain to this uniquely American vessel....please please please...! Phil Lord ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Stephen Allen" Subject: HMS Victorious camouflage question and arrestor gear? Dear all Thanks for the previous responses on this topic, I now have Alan Raven's RN Camouflage Vol 1 and it, together with the photographs in the AOTS Victorious have answered pretty much all my questions concerning the shape and placement of the Admiralty disruptive scheme, except for whether a boot topping continued to be applied to the ship. The 1941 dated photos of Victorious in Anatomy of the Ship show a dark band at and extending slightly above the waterline, but I've got no idea whether this is red or black, except that it seems to extend up the hull to where a boot topping would end, so any thoughts from the RN experts on the list would be greatly appreciated. Secondly, published sources indicate that Victorious was completed with six arrestor wires aft, and was not fitted with additional arrestor wires until sometime later, yet the AOTS diagram 'As fitted' of Victorious' flight deck, shows eight wires aft, and two forward straddling the accelerator (catapult) ramp. Any advice concerning the number and location of arrestor wires during 1941 would again be welcome - I'm fairly certain that the number of wires aft should be the original six, but what about the two wires forward? thanks again and regards to all Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: Graham Preston Subject: Re: USS Oklahoma drawings In Entry # 7, Detlef was asking about where to find a set of drawings for the USS OKLAHOMA in 1941. Try: http://www.floatingdrydock.com/. Go to "Ships Plans", and click on the "G Series". There is a set of plans for the OKLAHOMA, as of Feb. 1941. I have a set of these plans myself, and they are very good. Hope this helps. Happy Modelling. Chris Preston, Victoria, B.C. Using the book US WARSHIPS OF WW1 BY Paul Silverstone copyright 1970 states in pages 24-28 listing Navy losses 1883-1939 that SC-60 was lost in a collision off Ambrose light NY on Oct 1,1918. Craig ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: Hubert Letterly Subject: New books I just received two new books, Steve Wipers "New Mexico" which is one of the best ever for the modeler, packed with information. Alan Raven's new Camouflage vol #4 has answered my question of how LCI(L) UK amphibious craft were painted and now my Loose Cannon LCI(L) can have the proper camo scheme. Don't miss either one of these books, they are both valuable in any collection.
