They were from London. << I seem to recall that Sir Mick and the boys hail from the industrial midlands of England...Manchester I think, or Birmingham perhaps? Spent Sunday morning working on a model and listening to the radio show called "Breakfast with the Beatles"... If the latter, then that's it mate, a small piece of history gone forever. Sorry about that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: andrew jones Subject: Mysterious goings on by the QE2 I never heard about the QE2 doing the full speed turn around etc, but I did re-call reading something about the QE2 or it might have been another cruise ship, going through the Bermuda Triangle & it vanished for a while & if my memory serves me correctly, according to the ships clocks it was on time at its destination, yet the ship was an hour or whatever over its arrival time...not sure if its true or just more fish stories of the triangle. Andrew ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "KLW" Subject: Where to go in London? Hi guys, As a Yank I need some help. I'll be staying in London for a few days come the end of July. Any good hobby stores, especially ships, that any of you can recommend? Also, what about must see sights and the likes - I already have the Imperial War Museum on my list. I'll be staying at a hotel in the Kensington area. Thanks Kevin Wenker ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: GKingzett Subject: Re: USS Ronald Reagan Just returned from a weekend trip to Norfolk, VA for the commissioning of the USS Ronald Reagan. I accompanied Mike Leonard and Darren Scannell to the very impressive ceremony. About 12, 000 invited guests were seated on the pier alongside the ship. Light cloud cover dissipated just at the start of the ceremony at 11 AM, leavng us all to swelter in the hot Virginia sun. Speeches were all short, to the point and inspiring. The sponsor, Nancy Reagan's, command, "Bring the ship alive", sent 2000 sailors running up the gangplanks, into the ship, and to man the rails in the age old ceremony. It is amazing that a ship that large can indeed "come alive" when the crew and officers take their positions. After the commissioning ceremony was finished we were all invited to tour the hangar and flight decks. Darren now has pictures of every possible detail on the flight deck. Mike and I hustled to keep up with him. The commissioning booklet is a slick paper soft cover book, 233 pages. The standard congratulatory messages, and a fine extensive selection of technical and historical articles. If you have any interest in aircraft carriers, I suggest you try to obtain this book. A written request to the PIO of Ronald Reagan will probably get you one. They were handed out free of charge at the commissioning. I consider it a lifetime opportunity to have attended this commissioning. If you get a chance to attend one, by all means do so. ANDERSEN ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Mastershipbldr Subject: HMS PRINCE of WALES COLORS I am just finshing up the KM BISMARCK as she looked when her and the PRINCE of WALES and HOOD meet. Does anyone know what color the PRINCE of WALES was. Also does anyone know of a 1/350 scale model of the Hood. Linburg has a 1/400 but i would like to have a 1/350 to keep the scale right. Thanks Don Haugh ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "David Griffith" Subject: Re: wing folds for S3 Viking Dear Bill Cole, I've looked through my (not very extensive compared to most people's) stash of unbuilt kits. I thought I had the wing fold you were looking for and I knew that I was never going to use it. Unfortunately, I realise now that I sold it at the Scottish Nationals a few months ago. Otherwise you'd be welcome to have it. However, I do still have the Paragon set of flaps and slats for the 1/48 kit. Nobody wanted to buy them, so I've got absolutely no use for them. If you're interested, then let me know your postal address and I'll send them across to you, free, gratis and for nothing. Assuming you live in the USA, then trying to send me a few dollars worth of sterling would be more hassle than it's worth. And at least they'll get used!
