I'll stash the wife in Harrod's and then be off. Hannant's here I come. The only problem is I won't be there long enough. Might have to come back. Again, thanks. You guys are a great bunch. Kevin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Dirk Emmermacher" Subject: Re: Where to go in London? Hello list. In 1984 I visited London. It was a great trip. >> 1. HMS Belfast, right next to the Tower of London; << Its an good ship. >> 2. The National Maritime Museum, downstream from there (you can go by bus etc, but there is also river transport, from Tower Pier) - and, as a bonus, the Cutty Sark is a couple of hundred yards away from the Museum; << Good to see both. >> 3. RAF musuem in Hendon. << Very good to see the planes of WWII in original. But when you make photos you should use a filter. The lights in the halls are giving a green light on the photos! Best regards. Dirk Emmermacher IG Mikromodell ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "John Rule" Subject: Re: Stones and Russian warships I think we definitely should stick to ships, as the stuff that has been written about the Rolling Stones on the list is very questionnable. I think you will find that Mick Taylor replaced Brian Jones after Brian's death. The group make up from the early 60's when they released Come On and I Wanna be Your Man was Mik Jagger, Brian Jones, Kieth Richard, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts. For fans like me Ron Wood was a late addition. He replaced Mick Taylor when Mick left. Bill Wyman retired from the band in the late nineties. The make is now Jagger, Richards, Wood and Watts with bass accompaniment being supplied by session musicians. I'm looking forward to seeing them along with 600,000 others in Toronto at an open air concert on July 30th. Also in the lineup are AC/DC, Rush, the Guess Who, the Blues Brothers etc. On a modelling note. What colour were Russian warships painted between approximately 1905 and 1914? Sincerely, John ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Andrew Barton" Subject: Arado Identification Numbers for Scharnhorst Does anyone happen to know any of the identification numbers (those on the side of the fusleage) of the Arado aircraft assigned to the Scharnhorst in 1943? If not the actual numbers, can anyone suggest a possible source of reference? Cheers Andrew Barton ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Katz, Gene S" Subject: USS Norton Sound, AVM-1 Booklets If anyone is interested in two booklets from AVM-1, showing two diff COs, probably used as "Welcome Aboard" or open ship booklets, let me know. Gene ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Richard Sweeney Subject: Pics from the Peabody Essex Hello I took some pictures this last weekend at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem Ma. didn't know if there might be some interest in viewing them. Here's the Link: http://www.pbase.com/rapam/peabody_essex Thanks, Rich Sweeney ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: SeaPhoto Subject: Re: USS Ronald Reagan >> How would you go about getting a commissioning booklet? << Prior to a commissioning, you can write to the PAO (Public Affairs Officer) of the ship and request one; that is your best chance. In my experience, it is rare to get one from the ship after they are commissioned, as they are given out freely at the event. It can't hurt to write the PAO and request one if they have some left however. If you really want one, you can also pick them up on eBay for 5- 10 dollars. Know a fair bit about her, my great uncle was last in command and I've built a model of her. would be glad to hear from who ever was asking. John Wressell ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: "Doug Wilde" Subject: Re: Sable Duckman, That page is a HOOT! But a careful reading of the caption says "Adaptation of US Navy photo". That and the accompanying text is all a lie. The only time (that I have been able to find) that USS SABLE (IX81) left Lake Michigan was under tow to Hamilton, Ontario, on Lake Ontario, for scraping. Had to cut off the wheels and paddleboxes in order to fit through the locks. Doug Wilde ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: "Rod Millard" Subject: String-along tool Looking for a string-along or a tool like it. Its for seizing rope. I know it was a available in the late eighties. Any help would be appreciated. Rod Millard ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: Friedrich Kappes Subject: keywords for websites Hi, as most of you know I run a litle website, mainly to show my questions to everybody and to provide links and pictures. To get more interested visitors, I try to find good keywords. If you could tell me what keywords you would find useful, in ANY language, I would appreciate it very much! Thank you in advance!!
