Allen Subject: Flags Can anyone give me a lead on a source for flags? I need a US ensign and Jack (WWII vintage) in a fairly large scale (1/125). Thanks, Steve Allen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Phillip Anz-Meador" Subject: Arado IDs for Scharnhorst I believe unit codes + ID letters may be found in the Schiffer book "Luftwaffe Codes, Markings, and Units", which is reviewed here: http://m2reviews.cnsi.net/scotts/books/lcmu.htm Unfortunately, my copy is in storage... Phillip Anz-Meador Houston, TX ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: "David Hathaway" Subject: Re: Imperial War Museum Duxford Just for information, the free bus to Duxford from Cambridge railway station goes every hour and basically goes out to Duxford and heads back as the return leg. First bus out is about 9:30am and gets to Duxford just as they open the doors at 10:00. Last bus back is around closing time - 6:00pm I think, but I am not sure. Do allow a full day or two - there is a lot to see and, yes there is a lot of non-air exhibits, there is a superb building dedicated to armour and wheeled vehicles, a lifeboat a RN CMB from WWI, an X-class midget submarine.... Enjoy. David ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Rob and Rose Brown Subject: Gneisenau How do you pronounce this German warship name? Gun-ice-ah-now, Gun-ice-ah-noo, Nice-ah-now, Nice-ah-noo, or some other variation? Always been curious... Cheers Rob ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "William H. Shuey" Subject: ICM Hood Question for SMML folks: Has anyone heard anymore about ICM's proposed H.M.S. HOOD in 1/350? I notice that they have released another iteration of their German Markgraf Class Battleship molds so they are apparently still in business. I would imagine they have canceled their proposed Essex Class carrier kit now that Trumpeter have stolen their thunder, but the Hood would seem to be a good bet. Bill Shuey ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "bert" Subject: Re: String-along tool Rod wrote "string-along tool. This sounds to me like a "Spanish Windlass" looks like a mallet with a rounded groove along the top of the head, with it you can get the seizing really tight. If it is for model size whipping you can make one with a couple of pieces of dowel of a diameter to suit. TaT. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "Craig Bennett" Subject: Sea Blade type DD Hi In the front page of the COURIER-POST today was an article that the Navy has announced that it has picked 3 out of 6 defense contractors for the new Sea Blade low draft type destroyers. The Navy wants to build 60 ships for the next 20 yrs. 2 contractors will be picked and each will build a prototype that the Navy will evaluate for how many they will need. The ships be modular so they can be modified in a hurry for different tasks such as mining sweeping or anti sub warfare as examples. The 3 contractors are Lockheed Martin of New Jersey, General Dynamics of Virginia, and Raytheon Co. of Massachusetts. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Perry Tolliver" Subject: USS Indiana colors late 1942 I was told that in late 42 this ship was painted in measure 15 disruptive pattern. It wasn't the normal blues that the US Navy used but however a pattern of greens. So far in my reasearch I have only come up with the Indiana being a green battleship. My grandfather once told me he had helped break in a green battleship. Can someone please tell me what these colors might have been? Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Darren Scannell Subject: USS Ronald Reagan photos Gus and whoever else is interested. I took photos of the Reagan and am waiting for them to be developed. When I get them scanned in, I will send them to Shane and Lorna to be put on the SMML site for your pleasure. If you want prints, let me know and I can make a set. Be patient, it will take a couple of weeks to get it all organized.
