Those ot you who are interested can now view the two tone scheme that this ship had during the war. Vindication! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "David N. Lombard" Subject: Re: prices & help >> my father has joined a model club & has no computer, Im doing the searches. Hes after some etched brass fittings for the lindberg fletcher class destroyer & the prices 1-125 scale, we live in australia, hes on one side & Im on the other. Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction. << Gail, I don't think PE (photo etched) is available for as large a scale ship as the "Blue Devil". I did some googling and found: google search: lindbergh blue devil pe http://www.modelwarships.com/features/current/fletcher/fletcher_index.htm http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/dd/dd-bd-cr/bluedev.html http://smmlonline.com/archives/VOL0705.txt (an item from this list by Jeff Herne, referencing the first item above) http://smmlonline.com/archives/VOL0838.txt (an item from this list by David Miller) http://www.hobbycentre.com.au/LINDBG03.html http://rcgroups.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2129 There was a 2 part article publish around 92-95 by Model Ship Builder, an American ship modeling magazine, with specifics on correcting the kit, but I have no other info beside this recollection of the issues (I lost them, some how...) Other items related to the ship (but not the Lindbergh model) are: google search: fletcher destroyer model http://www.badshipmodels.com/fletcher.html http://www.motionmodels.com/ships/dd/fletch.html http://www.hobbyworldinc.com/plast69.html http://www.modelwarships.com/gallery/dd/dd-445/350-cn/dd445-index.html And, the most amazing model of a Fletcher EVER built, perhaps of ANY model ship ever built: http://www.steelnavy.com/SteinbrunnFletcher.htm This model was featured in a multi-part article in "Seaways, Ships in Scale" http://www.seaways.com/ and, if I recall correctly, "Fine Scale Modeler" http://www.finescale.com/ I was in complete awe of this model and it's builder, knowing I could never, ever, achieve that level of fidelity and skill; sadly, others were annoyed to see something that perfect -- go figure... There are several book available on the Fletcher's, Perhaps the most informative is: "The Floating Drydock's Plan Book: The Fletcher Class" ISBN 0-0944055-00-1, http://floatingdrydock.com/ A review of this book is at http://www.steelnavy.com/fdfletch.htm The Floating Drydock also have their own 1/192 model and other references that would be of interest, your father may want to order the catalog from them. I hope this helps... David N. It has no makers name or moulding marks. The hull is heavy thick plastic about 1/16"/1.5mm thick. Beam: - 5 1/16"/130mm. Length : - 25 1/2"/647mm. It seems originally to have been fitted with automatic steering which could be set to auto or manual, there is also a slot across the top of the wheel house, maybe for a sliding control of some sort. In my opinion the boat is more a toy rather than scale model, perhaps a better description would be semi scale. It reminds me of the Lindberg destroyer kit but of better quality and manufacture. It was given to me by a friend with a request to "make it go", in other words fit it with an electric motor and R/C. I have put some images of the boar on a temporary web site you can find it at:- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alan.roots1 << I'm afraid I can't be more specific than this. IIRC, this boat is a ringer for a popular toy RAF "crash boat" of the postwar era. At least it strongly resembles a few examples I saw on E-Bay a few months ago. It was not a kit, but came fully assembled. This model seems to be missing the machine gun cupola mounts and a few other deck fixtures but otherwise looks exactly like it. It was made in the UK in the early 1960s, possibly late 1950s, if this is the same. Jim Bloom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "David L. Miller" Subject: Re: prices & help Hi, Gail, Are we talking about Lindburg's Blue Devil? If we are, a few years ago, I installed RC gear in one for a client. He also wanted me to 'fancy it up a bit" and so I added some railing and other items. I did not use photoetch parts and I am not sure if PE parts are available at this large scale. Because of its size I was able to make railings using my small drill bits, wire for stancheons, and gray thread for railing. I replaced the large, solid plastic radar antenna (which I think also functioned as the on-off switch for the original motorized model) with a version made from window screen. I also modified some hatches with styrene sheet. It looked very good when finished. Not to give you an answer to a question you did not ask, but at this scale much can be done without resorting to photoetch. I did not try to super-detail the model because it was for pond use, and details usually get broken-off during transport. Regards, Dave Miller Macomb, IL ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Nuno J. V. Rubim" Subject: Yamato: Another question Yamato. It is clear to me that each of the 460 mm and 155 mm guns had independent elevation, so each barrel could be aimed at different surface targets. What about the 127 mm? Beeing their main purpose AA fire, and considering their intrinsic firing dispersion rate, I guess that both barrels always fired at the same elevation, wich simplified, among other technical problems, the charging procedures. Is this a correct assumption? Thanks Nuno Rubim ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: Mac Dale Subject: Lafayette Has anyone seen the new Heller Lafayette Class Frigate on the North American side yet? Cheers, Ian http://gwardnet.d2g.com/mac/ Mac's Naval Photography Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "DUCKMAN" Subject: RULE BRITTANIA HOWDY YA'LL, WOULD ONE OF YOU KIND FOLKS PLEASE LEAD ME TO A WEB SITE WHERE I CAN FIND THE LYRICS TO THE ABOVE? THANKY, DAVID IN DIXIE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "bert" Subject: Re: Camouflage Roger.antrobus. from bert, in my last remit to the site I mentioned a series of video's made by Roland Carter a P.O. R.N.(now deceased). in his last three episodes 10,11,12, he was doing the East indies and B.P.F. fleets, in one of the episodes, I think 11 is colour film taken from units of the american ships including the "Saratoga" of the British fleet passing in review on the occasion of the "Sara" leaving the indian ocean theatre to return to the pacific in late '44 early '45, and some very clear pictures of the "Queen Elizabeth" are in it. The thing is you will need to know the ships as they are not identified vocaly on the film individually. Thats where we "oldies" of "failing" memories can be useful.
