Since then, I am facing problems to get access to it. Every attempt was and is rejected. All I am getting is the standard note that this site is not available. Does nybody know what's up with them? Could it be that I am a victim of scurity restrictions? << The URL you gave works OK for me. Norman ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Evangelos Aragiannis" Subject: Re: Atenosobo Yamato Please use this URL: http://babelfish.altavista.com/ The translation is a little far from decent but better than nothing. Good luck ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Diodor Subject: Re: Naval Historical Center To F. Pletscher re your inquiry about not being able to access their site. I just tried the URL you listed and the home page came up fine. Wish I had an answer for your problem. Just to let you know it's a viable site and Naval Historical Center is alive and well. Ted Treadwell ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Les Pickstock Subject: Polyurethane foam How big a piece and what density? Contact me off list and I may be able to help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Leonard, Michael W" Subject: Re: Problems with Naval Historical Center Web Site No. I got in without a problem just by clicking on the link you posted. MWL ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: CaptainOD Subject: Re: Brown Water Navy We have a couple of boats down here at the UDT/SEAL museum at Fort Pierce Florida including a PBR and other related stuff. Its a little off the beaten track, but south of Orlando and north of Fort Lauderdale. The boats are outside and you can get right up to them for photos and the museum inside has other related Riverine items. Bob O'Donovan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: FBustelo Subject: Y Gun on Onslow & Mr. Raven I have had the pleasure of visiting Alan Raven at his home on several occasions (we live about 10 minutes from each other). Believe me sir, he is most certainly not an American ;-P (Though he lives in the States). Felix Bustelo ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Edward Brown" Subject: WEM Laforey and Musketeer Many of you will know the history of WEM's long ago announced Lance & Milne. Suffice it to say masters were produced and then sidelined. A minor disaster as RN subjects in 1.350 scale are a comparative rarity. Well WEM obviously listen to their customers as HMS Laforey and HMS Musketeer arrived on my doorstep today. Needless to say both boxes have been opened and contents lovingly caressed. Seemingly Mr Hall has refined the original master and hey presto another gem. I use the singular rather than the plural as the refinement is to only one of the originals. The ex Milne has received the treatment and used to create Laforey & Musketeer. Both ships were armed with the distinctive power operated 6 QF MkXI (3X2). Lance together with Larne, Lively and Legion were a sub group of four armed with four twin 4inch Mk XVI. Hopefully, the Lance master will now be brought forward. Back to the Laforey and Musketeer. M class destroyer were a repeat of the L Class and differ only in detail. Both ships are configured as in 1943 with the rear set of torpedo tubes replaced by a single 4" gun (Q in the current string). The only major differences being that the aft deck house, sporting a MF/DF antenna, in Laforey is larger as she was a leader. There are minor differences in carley floats and supports. The mouldings are superb with no blemishes. The instructions are as to the usual WEM standard which is as good as they come. The brass is superb. If RN is your thing you are not going to be disappointed. To use an American expression - outstanding. Hang on a moment though the brass titled L & M Class destroyers has the name plates for all the ships bar Lance, Larne, Lively & Legion. Does this mean that this sub group remains sidelined? WEM make my day twice and produce positive statement of intent. Edward ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: GKingzett Subject: Boot topping SMML'ers Can anyone tell me when the US Navy began to apply the black boot topping to the waterline of their ships? The time, and perhaps the source of the info. I have to be as sure as I can be for a project I am doing. Thanks Gary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: "Stephen Varhegyi" Subject: Re: 1/700 Ark Royal Thanks guys For the Ark Royal,Victorious info. By the comments it sounds like what you're telling me is that nobody makes an Ark Royal in 1:700, (ie Just a hunk of plastic), However you can buy a sort of hull to scratch build one. Seriously thanks, the info will be very useful. Steve Varhegyi ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: John Snyder Subject: Re: USS Atlanta (CL-51) Camo >> it appears to me that while the decks are all blue, the tops of the turrets are not. << Hi Vincent, It could be that what you are seeing is different reflectivity of Deck Blue on the sloping tops of the turrets, as contrasted to the horizontal decks. Congratulations to SMMLie Al Ross II for his cover shot and article in the latest issue of Seaways' Ships in Scale magazine. This article pertains to the 1/192 scale BlueJacket Ship Crafters kit of the destroyer escort SAMUEL ROBERTS which Al updated and built. A very fine model, indeed.
