I have been looking for some time but with no success. Pacific Front Hobbies appear to stock them but there are no details other than a price list. The following url provides a comprehensive listing of ship kits - takes a while to load but well worth the wait :- www.quuxuum.org/rajens_list/rajen.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: Fkbrown90 Subject: Re: Boot topping The 110 Ft. wooden hulled WW 1 U.S. Navy sub chasers had a black boot topping between the red bottom and the gray side of the hull. The few photos I have of the WW 2 version are unclear in this regard. How say ye, Ted Treadwell, Yea or Nay? A quick flip through Jane's Fighting Ships of the Twentieth Century produced nothing definitive, as all the photos therein are in "black-and-white" and taken from considerable distances. Boot toppings can be difficult to do. In addition to being straight (a given in any waterline) they actually vary in width if a hull curves under near the stern. The width of the boot topping must APPEAR to be uniform, of course, WHEN VIEWED AT EYE LEVEL. Therefore the actual width, as measured on the surface of the hull in this area, increases as the hull "tucks under" aft. Was she a Maritime Commission design? Who built her and where? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Evangelos Aragiannis" Subject: Re: Atenesobo Yamato Ok, this is supposed to be the "bible" of all Yamato books. There is probably all technical detail you can find. Many vertical and lateral cross sections, description of all decks. Maybe 90% of all the pictures there are on Yamato and Musashi. Comparison of performances amongst other intl. battleships of the time. Relations between Yamato and other ships of Nihon Kaigun. Seperate envelope with copies of original bluprints (in original blue color). However, if you are looking for a modeller's guide, the Gakken books and Skulski's book are far more helpful. Hope this helps ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "bendinggrass" Subject: Re: Ark Royal I think that Aoshima made a number of RN WW2 aircraft carriers Randy Nugent ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "William H. Shuey" Subject: Re: Ohio >> a) I urgently need the body lines and any other available external details related to the famous WW2 tanker OHIO considered the saviour of Malta << The key here would be to find out what the U.S. Maritime Commission class number was, i.e. A "T-2 Tanker" for instance. This might help pin down the general characteristics of the Ohio. Bill Shuey ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "Stephen Varhegyi Subject: Re: Ark Royal and Aussie Humour One aspect of our quirky Australian humour that seems to completely miss the mark with non-antipodeans (particularly our American allies) is our use of irony. When I made my comments I was actually joking. That's why I said "seriously folks" at the end of my comments. I'm sorry if I appeared unappreciative in my attempt at humour. As a matter of fact I just purchased the Revell Ark Royal yesterday and I can see that with a bit of effort it could be a decent model. I have also ordered the Aoshima Victorious from Hobby Link Japan and eagerly await it's arrival. I am a recent (but happy) convert to ship modelling from aircraft (I am currently working on my 4th ship project, see my first 3 efforts in splice the mainbrace gallery). Fletcher was first, then Bismarck, then Scharnhorst. I don't think I'm doing too bad. I'm involved in the local IPMS here in Sydney and have 11 gold awards and numerous silvers and bronzes to my credit, as well as being "Modeller of the year" in 1999. So I have no problem building/painting, it's the nautical terminology that eludes me. Sometimes I might need a bit of a hand with all things nautical. None the less I am very grateful for Iain Wyllie's tips and assistance from others on SMML. Just for the uninitiated what do the following terms mean: Bulwark, hawsepipes, gash chute, sponson bracket, typhon whistle etc.? Is their a glossary of nautical terms one can purchase? Sorry if I don't know my sponson from my pitot tube or my bulwark from an aileron but you'll have to be gentle. Thanks Iain and Nat, I'll be in touch going forward. Best wishes Steve Varhegyi ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Mnw99 Subject: Ohio Hi Len Jordan does a very good Ohio in 1/1200th armed and unarmed (code T5 & T6) unpainted for the £6.00 plus postage. Regards Malcolm ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Vincent.Mccullough Subject: Re: USS Atlanta (CL-51) Camo John Snyder wrote: >> It could be that what you are seeing is different reflectivity of Deck Blue on the sloping tops of the turrets, as contrasted to the horizontal decks. John, That is what I suspected. However the overhead shot of the Atlanta seems to indicate that the tops have MUCH higher reflectivity than the surrounding decks. Unfortunately, there is no date associated with that photo, and it's possible that it was during sea trials, and that the camo pattern had not been applied yet. The actual horizontal part of the 5" turrets is quite small relative to the remaining, sloped portion of the turret. Perhaps it was decided that painting this small portion of the turret top would have little value?
