Harold Stockton ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Ken Goldman" Subject: Re: Bewaffneter Tanker 1939 My guess would be that "Bewaffneter Tanker" would translate as "armed tanker" as bewaffnen is the verb "arm". Of course I am assuming that the "tanker" part either is in English or English shares that word with German. Ken Goldman ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: URUDOFSKY Subject: HP again Bewaffneter Tanker means armed tanker Ulrich Rudofsky ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Ernst-Bernhard Kayser Subject: Re: bewaffneter Tanker >> Please can one of our German speaking enthusiasts explain the following for me? "Bewaffneter Tanker 1939" << Dear Chris here's the translation: "armed tanker/oiler 1939" Bernhard ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "Tim Perry" Subject: Re: Tanker Ohio >> I Have Built THREE of this Model, 1/96 Scale [5ft 8inch] so lots of detail.,2 in WAR Livery and one in "as built" they are in the War @ Maritme Museums of MALTA any person wishing details, contact me, as I carried 5 Years researshing, I have also a copy of the original 1939 drawings, etc etc << Hi Edward, I for one would be very interested in knowing more about the Ohio, especially of her when she took part in Operation Pedestal. My e-mail address is tim@tjpgraphics.com, if you want to get in touch off-forum. Thanks in advance, Tim Perry wunwinglow www.tjpgraphics.com for digital aviation modelling ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "Reid, John (AFIT)" Subject: Matchbox kits - possible source If you are seeking Matchbox or other discontinued kits, one place to look is www.kingkit.co.uk ; there is a facility to search by category (SHIPS) and manufacturer. John Reid (and thanks to John Snyder for reminding me of them - years ago I actually visited Shifnal, Shropshire UK, but walk-in customers are no longer permitted) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "Uwe Besken" Subject: Re: translation of "Bewaffneter Tanker 1939" Hi Chris, "Bewaffneter Tanker 1939" will be "armed fuel ship/oiler nineteenhundredthirtynine" in english. Uwe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Glenn and Kelly Neklason" Subject: USS Halsey (CG-23) Does anybody know where I can lay my hands on some pictures of the USS Halsey (CG-23) as she appeared in the early '90's? Thank you, Glenn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: "Loren Pike" Subject: Matchbox 1:700/720th kits >> Has the Matchbox model Co. gone out of business? I remember them making kits of such ships as the HMS EXETER, TIGER, ARIADNE?, DUKE OF YORK?, KELLY and there was some US ships. I think there was a FLETCHER, INDIANAPOLIS and PENSACOLA? Does any one else remember this company? Are any of these kits still inproduction? << Craig, The answers to your questions are: "YES", Matchbox is out of business. "YES", I remember Matchbox as a company. "YES", many of these kits are being re-issued by Revell/AG from Germany who I believe have purchased/acquired the Matchbox molds (ships, aircraft, armor, etc.) and have re-issued many of the old kits. I do not have any of the kits you mention above as the Revell/AG "reissued" kits, but have the following in my "stash" from the "old Matchbox" days. Here they are: Kit # Model Name Comment Model Manufacturer Scale PK 061 HMS Ariadne (MINELAYER) Abdiel Class Minelayer MATCHBOX 1:700 PK 062 Z-38 NARVIK MATCHBOX 1:700 PK 063 USS Fletcher (DD) MATCHBOX 1:700 PK 064 HMS Kelly MATCHBOX 1:700 PK 162 HMS Exeter MATCHBOX 1:700 PK 163 USS San Diego (CRUISER) MATCHBOX 1:700 PK 165 USS Indianapolis (HEAVY CRUISER) MATCHBOX 1:700 PK 352 HMS Duke of York (BB) King George V class BB MATCHBOX 1:700 As you can see in the included chart, the earliest one I purchased in 1983. I've listed the scale as "1:700", BUT, they may be closer to 1:720th if one were to get real anal and measure them. They all "look right" next to 1:700th, so I don't really care. Hope this helps. Loren Pike ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From: "Ralf Gerhardt" Subject: Yurji Gagarinīs Spaceship Vostok Hi Phil, may be eBay will make your dream come true. Below youīll find three links for VOSTOK kitīs in various scales up to even 1/24! The first item is a pretty rare kit from the ex-GDR (Eastern Germany). However, I hope you can obtain one... http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3144616885 http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3144043314 http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3143629222 Best wishes, Ralf P.S.: Yurii A. (Alexejevich) Gagarin died on March 27th 1968, just 35 years ago by an accident while testing a MiG 15 UTI jet. (Note: There are also rumours that he is ostensible still alive and that the crash has been a diversion only to conceal his mental derangement!) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From: "Chris and Kayo Amano-Langtree" Subject: Ise and Faulknor The Japanese firms Joe's World, Fine Molds and Hasegawa themselves do some fantastic etched brass sets for the new Ise. MS3 was a grey-green and would equate to the medium colour. Christopher Amano-Langtree ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From: Sab1156 Subject: Re: Bewaffneter Tanker 1939 Dear Chris, "Bewaffneter Tanker" means armed Oiler / Petrolship. Best Regards Detlef Hartwig ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13) From: WRPRESSINC Subject: Re: HMS Onslow I saw that the photo of Onslow has been put up.
