Does anybody have any suggestions for how to help a book recover from a cigarette-smoking problem? On a few occasions I have gotten given a book that formerly lived in the house of a chain-smoker. (one book from 1980 and two from 1993) I've tried opening the books to different pages and letting them air out, but no joy. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to remove nicotine smell from a book? Thanks, Rick ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: ELLshipmodeler Subject: Re: Waterline models book I have a book that might be what Daniel Kurtz is looking for: Waterline Ship Models by E. C. Talbot-Booth, Lcdr, RNR, 1937, published by Appleton-Century I'm not sure if it is still available anywhere. Gene Larson Alexandria, VA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: URUDOFSKY Subject: Re: Moldy book I think they used baby talcum powder on the book pages that got wet in the flood in Florence a few years ago. Ulrich Rudofsky ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: Graeme Martin Subject: QE 2??????? This kit, Trident Hobbies lists a 1/350 QE2 by Gunze Sangyo as available for immediate shipment. I have checked with Tirdent and it is an error. The kit is 1:450 scale and is 1980's style funnels and stern decks are as built. Graeme Martin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "lamarbjones" Subject: Re: Larry Sowinski Larry Sowinski's 1/500 models are on the Intrepid in New York City. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: "George Peat" Subject: Re: Vickers OPV Mk 2 model on ebay - thanks Jim, I have here the Model Boats free plan for the vickers Vedette and also in the magazine I have the building instructions,If you are interested or any one is interested contact me off group at gpeat@globalnet.co.uk ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: "bert" Subject: Fairmile "B" seeking info from (TaT) I was recently given a fibreglass hull of what was ostensibly a "B" class fairmile.it is 27.750inches/705MM long with a beam of about 4.625/120mm it is somewhat distorted with a slight twist and bellied out in the beam, there is a funnel and four deck housing/hatches,and about 2 dozen whitemetal castings for the scuttle's: nothing else and no drawings or instructions. my query is does anyone out there have an inkling as to the scale or maker of this hull which is IMO a professional job. it scales roughly to about 1/48th. also does anyone have any advice on how to straighten the hull. I can remove the bellying by clamping aluminium angle along each side, buuuut, how to make it retain the shape after the removal of the aluminium and remove the slight twist. TIA bert (TaT) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: Jeffon10 Subject: Re: Larry Sowinski Larry Sowinski is/was affiliated with "The Floating Drydock" mail order firm, Kregesville, PA near Philly. They should have an INTERNET site. Should you find an e-mail for Mr. Sowinski, I have an burning question re destroyer deck colors pre 1937. Regards, Jeff ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From: Richard Sweeney Subject: Gunzie QE2/ Roll call >> I have this kit in a Revell (Spain? Mexico?) box, but have not built it (yet!) I think I paid about half that price (~$40) a few years back from a small shop that occasionally took in 2nd hand kits. Why is it that Gunze Sangyo charges double for the same kit from the same mold? (see: Titanic) << The Kit dates to the 1970's, it is 1/450th scale. It was made by the old ENTEX company. their kits were pretty good, especially for their day, and can still stand the test today, especially thanks to people like Gold Medal Models and Tom's modelworks. It is a sister kit to the Minicraft 1/350th RMS Titanic, and the Gunzie 1/350th RMS Lusitania. As for Price, Larry I couldn't agree with you more. I paid $18.00 for my Entex Lusitania back when Entex was still around. I think the going price was $25.00, but a store manager took pity on me, a little kid with only 20 hard earned dollars in his pocket. (Ah, Those were the days.) But there is a difference between the Minicraft RMS Titanic and the Gunzie released RMS Lusitania and RMS Queen Elizabeth II. Minicraft invested the money to clean up the molds a few years ago, but for the most part kept the price down. Gunzie has just kept using the molds and jacked the price up. Kit wise, they were nice kits then and still are today. Built up, you could probably moor it near a 1/450 Glenco S.S. France. Roll call. Richard Sweeney, 38, single but dating someone at the moment, that might change. Live in Northeastern Massachusetts, Have had the pleasure of meeting Ed Parent, Rod Dauteuil, Franklyn Brown, Randy Ward, and very briefly Ted Tredwell all very fine people. Build: everything I can get my hands on. Ships are a favorite though. I am a member of the U.S.S. Constitution Ship Modeler's Guild, but alas, do not make nearly the number of meetings I would like. Always look forward to getting SMML, as there is always something of interest in it.
