Hi Ray, >> Question for John Snyder, is there a prize for the person who can prove he has used every single PE part from a fret? << Absolutely. The prize is an even smaller photoetch fret! Cheers, John-the-Sadist ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: "Stephen Allen" Subject: HMS Victorious flight deck safety nets and pom pom directors Dear all Having advanced to the point where the basic hacking, slashing and reworking for HMS Victorious (the carrier, modelled as in May 1941, from the Heller 1/400 scale kit) is nearly complete, I am pausing to consider some of the finishing details that will require construction - a couple of which my otherwise excellent references (in particular Ross Watton's Anatomy of the Ship: The Aircraft Carrier Victorious) can't help with. The first of these details is the shape and construction of the flight deck edge safety nets, carried in numbers in 1941 but later displaced in large part by gun platforms. From what I can glean from the drawings these were more like open-topped baskets with slightly rounded cross-sections, but I haven't been able to establish the nature of the 'nets' or slats or whatever - some of the drawings show fixtures in the 'nets' which seems to indicate that they are a bit more solid than present-day safety nets on carriers. The drawings in AOTS Victorious show the nets only in plan or silhouette, except for the nets under the round down for which cross-section is shown - even confirming that the deck side nets have the same cross-section as these would be helpful. Any other details concerning these would be appreciated - an isometric drawing or close-in photo would be great but even a description would really help. One possibility is that they are similar to, but smaller in extent than, the structures surrounding Ark Royal's extensive round down? I've done quite a bit of trawling on the web but haven't come up with anything really useful. Secondly, can anyone suggest where I might find a drawing or useful close in photo of the pom pom directors initially carried by this class of carrier? Again, while these details are indicated on the drawings, a photograph with reasonable detail would help. (so, I am sure you will agree, would a cup of tea and a good lie down). regards and thanks to all. I know I can go to Rajen's and find the manufacturers, but you can't sort them by scale. Any help is appreciated. << Randy Ward wrote: >> Chuck, you might try copying the Rajen list into your favorite word processor, then deleting anything that isn't the scale you want. You should be left with exactly what you're looking for. Just a thought. << Or, you can take a copy of the list, and search on [1/350]. Most web browsers have a search function. Some day, we may come up with a set of "alternate indices" to make it easier to search by scale. I've been thinking of doing a 1/1200 scale index, since I've been adding so many of those lately. Version 6.3 will finally include some of the old Eagle 1/1200 kits. The problem is that making such alternate indices would be a huge amount of work. But, to get back to Chuck's original question, some manufacturers which support 1/350 scale are: Tamiya, Revell, Blue Water Navy, ISW, Academy, Arcitec, Banner, Classic Warships, Delphis, DML/Dragon, ICM, Minicraft, Nautilus, OzMods, Panda, SeaWolf, Steel Navy, Trumpeter, Viking, White Ensign Models, YS Masterpieces, and Zvezda. There may well be more, but I don't know of them. David R. Wells "There seems to be something wrong | David R. Wells with our bloody ships today" | Adm. D. Well, some refer to me as "Sir", and some as "Ma'am", and quite a few just are hesitant to guess! Anyway, the driver's license says I got an "F" in sex, so I guess I should go study some more. 8-) Randy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From: "lamkeel" Subject: Amy - "The Gentle sex" I knew I would get it wrong! It was in fact tongue in cheek, but it was about authors that have contact with Conway Maritime Press or Chrysalis Books plc. Thank you the three gents that answered. Most informative too! I never stop learning. (But I will not mention the number of times that I have been married to.."T G S".............). SMITH" Subject: English instructions Dear Shane- I have recently acquired a model of the P.T. 109 U.S.Navy Torpedo Boat manufactured by Lindberg. The kit number is 812 and was probably made in the early 1960's. However the instructions that came with it are not in English. Could you help me find a copy of the English instructions. I want to assemble this kit for my grandson. Thanks, Sincerely George L.
